General Education Facilitated Conversations

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in a campus-wide conversation on what should be the goals and objectives of UNO’s General Education program. A General Education Review Task Force was formed this past fall to facilitate a campus process to identify the learning outcomes we expect all UNO students to have upon graduation. The purpose of UNO’s General Education review is to articulate the overall educational goals or objectives, develop student learning outcomes for the goals/objectives, and use assessment results to improve student learning. The purpose of the Task Force itself is to facilitate and organize the general education review process, collect existing data, information, and assessment results and return information to the faculty for review and change initiatives. Please note, that the task force and the review is not concerned with designing new curriculum or changing existing distribution requirements.

In order to capture as much input as possible from the UNO community, the General Education Review Task force has partnered with UNO’s newly established Institute of Collaboration Science. Faculty, students, and staff are invited to attend brainstorming sessions, during which participants use collaboration software to anonymously capture and rate their opinions about which knowledge and skills UNO graduates should possess. This information will become the basis for the next steps in the general education review process.
