2001 Archive Program General Information and Program Overview European Studies Conference 2001 Fees: All chairs and presenters of papers must pay the registration fee. Since this conference is self-supporting, we depend on that income to cover the cost of conference materials, the conference luncheon on Friday, refreshments during session breaks, and transportation between the UNO campus and our three designated conference hotels. Location of Conference: The conference will take place in Milo Bail Student Center meeting rooms on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. You will be able to sign in and then receive ESC materials with the final program in the Crimson Room. Refreshments will be served there also. Shuttle Service: Complementary shuttle service will be available on a regular schedule between the three conference hotels and the campus. Thursday Reception and Dinner: Participants in the European Studies Conference, the Central Slavic Conference, and the Third World Studies Conference will have the opportunity to attend a reception and no-host dinner at the W.H. Thompson Alumni House which is located on the West side of our campus. The special guest of the evening will be Dr. Fatos Tarifa, the ambassador from Albania to the United States. A distinguished career sociologist and university professor, Dr. Tarifa has taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Webster University (Leiden) and the Institute of Social Studies (The Hague) before he entered the diplomatic corps of his country in 1998. The ambassador's speech will follow the dinner. Please note that the $25 cost of the dinner is not included in your registration fee. Ethnic Dinner on Friday Evening: Enjoying a Czech dinner at the Bohemian Café has become a well liked tradition for many conference participants. The cost of the dinner is again $16 this year. The choice of entrees includes Jägerschnitzel, roast loin of pork or roast chicken; a choice of vegetable (Sauerkraut, sweet and sour cabbage or vegetable of the day); rye bread, Czech dumplings, kolacki; and a choice of beverage of coffee or tea.
