  Mini-Mobile Unit Research

The mini-mobile environmental monitoring unit is a portable, energy independent, exposure laboratory that can be used to detect the presence of water-borne contaminants in rivers, streams, wastewater, and other aquatic environments. The exposure chamber in the MMU allows for fish or other aquatic organisms to be exposed to local water in real time in a controlled environment.

Development of the MMU

The MMU has been field tested over the last two field seasons. In 2008, the MMU was deployed downstream from the wastewater treatment plant in Hastings, Nebraska. In 2009, the MMU was deployed within the wastewater treatment plant at Grand Island, Nebraska. A scientific paper is currently being written to formally discuss the findings from these two studies.
