UNOmaha Annual Public Forum on the Environment

The UNOmaha Environmental Studies Program is committed to providing the residents of the Nebraska and western Iowa with unbiased, scientifically based information on current environmental issues. An important way we meet this goal is through the Annual Public Forum on the Environment. Started in 2002, this event is held on a Saturday in February and is free and open to the public. Environmental Studies students work to select a current environmental topic important to Nebraska and identify a suite of speakers who will be able to give the public an overview of the scientific issues underlying the issue and the search for solutions. In addition, we work to invite speakers from stakeholders groups that represent the range of interests and opinions about the topic. Our goal is to give members of the public a chance to hear about the current status of our scientific understanding of an issue and any major uncertainties that remain. In addition, the public has a chance to hear from the range of opinions present in the state. In this way the public has a chance to formulate informed opinions about environmental issues important to the public.
