Best of 2013: A Commitment to Community Engagement
It was a special year for UNO in 2013 with countless events, achievements, special guest visits and national recognitions for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
With the year coming to a close, there was perhaps no more consistent theme than engagement. In fact, UNO made strides in major community engagement initatives and we were rewarded for those efforts nationally including making the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, an honor UNO has received since its inception in 2005.
Find out more about UNO's dedication to community engagement by visiting the UNO homepage in the afternoon.
This Day in UNO History
December 31, 1997: At a special session of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, members approve the sale of 140 acres at the north end of Aksarben to First Data Resources. As part of the purchase, FDR agrees to donate half the land to UNO, which planned to build its new College of Information Science and Technology on the site.
December 31, 2005: UNO students join other university students in Pascagoula, Miss., to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Thank you to the UNO Alumni Association for this information, which can also be found on its website here.
