Aviation Institute Partnering with the Strategic Air & Space Museum for Hops, Props, and Wings Aug. 29

UNO's Aviation Institute is teaming up with the Strategic Air & Space Museum for their weekly Hops, Props, and Wings on Aug. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come out and learn more about what's going on at the Museum and Aviation Institute.

Purchase your tickets directly from the Aviation Institute and receive ½ price admission for adults. This is only available by purchasing your tickets in advance. The cost is $6 for adults and kids--this price is not valid at the museum, and Museum members receive free admission.

Cactus Hill will be performing. UNO alumnus, Scott Gaeta, is a member of the band.

Food will be available for purchase.

For tickets, stop by the Aviation Institute in CPACS 120 or call 402.554.3424. Tickets will also be available through Kailey Dwyer at the ConAgra Hangar.

Nominations Sought for UNO Employee of the Month

Do you know a UNO employee who provides outstanding service to your department, the division or university as a whole? Why are you waiting? Nominate them for the 'Oh, What a Difference You Make!' Award (Employee of the Month) for office/service and managerial/professional staff. Nominations may be submitted by students, staff, faculty, visitors and administrators, and must meet the criteria listed below:
-Employed by UNO for one year or longer.
-Be in good standing.

Consideration includes:
- Performed job above and beyond expectations;
- Interpersonal skill/communication;
- Knowledge of job; and
- Adaptability.

Perks:
-Recipients receive $200, “rock star” parking for that month, recognition and photograph with the Chancellor, recognition at the Board of Regents meeting, a lapel pin and beverage holder.
-An Employee of the Month qualifies to be selected as Employee of the Year.

To nominate an employee, print and complete the nomination form, and send it to Human Resources, EAB 205.

Latino Population Projections from UNO in Huffington Post, on NET News
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, NET News reported on the latest Data Users Conference from UNO's Center for Public Affairs Research, which released new analyses of data from the 2010 Census, including projections into 2050 for demographics in Nebraska including age, race, and education. The projections showed that the percentage of Nebraska's population that is Hispanic will nearly triple over the next 40 years.

Lipschultz Talks Journalism in the Middle East
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Jeremy Lipschultz, professor in the School of Communication, published a blog on the Huggington Post on the topic of live tweeting and how it has impacted reporters' coverage of the Middle East.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Mark Wohar, professor of economics, was featured on KIOS-FM to talk about his recent designation as UNO's first eminent scholar.

Register for the Part-time Job Fair Aug. 28

The UNO Academic & Career Development Center is hosting a Part-time Job Fair during Durango Days on Wednesday, Aug. 28, to help kick off the start of the school year!

We are very excited about this event, and students are eager to learn about part-time positions available both on-campus and in the Omaha area. This event is free for UNO departments to attend to promote available student worker and work study positions.

Research Opportunity for Healthy Adults

Researchers with the School of HPER in conjunction with Creighton University are looking for healthy adults (males and females age 50-70) with no history of knee pain to act as controls for a research study. The purpose of this study is to determine thigh muscle function differences that exist between people with knee osteoarthritis and those without knee osteoarthritis.

The study will consist of one visit to the Creighton Rehabilitation Science Laboratory and will require 1.5-2.0 hours of your time. A $25 stipend is available to qualified participants.

Working on marketing materials? The Office of University Communications has launched their new website here.

University Communications also launched updated brand guidelines for all campus departments, offices and organizations to utilize when using the UNO brand and communicating on behalf of the University through marketing and promotional materials.
