East Parking Garage: Lot V Closure

The top level of the east parking structure (Lot V) will be closed today, August 19, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to construction activity. A crane will be putting materials on the south roof of Arts and Sciences Hall as a part of the ASH renovation project. The south central entrance to ASH will also be closed for the duration of this work.

Graduate Assistant Campus Orientation

The August Welcome and Orientation Workshop for Graduate Assistants, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development, is scheduled for today, August 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The workshop will provide information about life as a GA at UNO, a table talk session linked to your specific assignment and a discussion of survival skills for graduate assistants. It’s also a great opportunity to get to know other graduate assistants from across the campus. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served.

Campus Welcome & Orientation Workshops for All New Full-time Faculty

The 2013 Welcome & Orientation Workshops for all new full-time faculty members, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development, are set for today and tomorrow, Aug. 19 and Aug. 20.

These workshops provide us with the opportunity to welcome new faculty members to campus and introduce them to colleagues while they learn about UNO: our metropolitan mission and strategic goals, our students, our academic support services, and faculty development opportunities.

All-campus BBQ and Dessert Reception Aug. 25

A new addition to Durango Days this year is the All-campus BBQ and Dessert Reception on Sunday, Aug. 25. The BBQ is free and open to all UNO community members, including parents and family members that are on campus. The BBQ will begin around 3 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse, immediately following New Student Convocation, and end at 5 p.m. Toss on your Mav gear and join us in welcoming our newest students and kicking-off the fall semester.


Bowling League Members Sought

The UNO Faculty/Staff Bowling League for 2013-2014 gets rolling at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at West Lanes Bowling Alley (72nd and Dodge Streets). New teams and individuals who would like to be placed on a team are welcome regardless of skill level.

Teams may have more than four bowlers--18 years or older--on their rosters, but only four will bowl each week. Teams must have at least two UNO current or retired administrative/faculty/staff members which includes spouses, immediate family or significant others. Graduate teaching assistants are also eligible.

League bowlers unable to arrive at 4:30 p.m. each week have until the end of their team's fifth frame to join the first game of the evening.

Everyone is invited to learn more about the F/S Bowling League at an open house on Aug. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at West Lanes. Stop in and bowl one FREE game (shoe rental not included).

Academic & Career Development Center Moving to EAB 115

As of Aug. 21, the Academic & Career Development Center, formerly the UNO Career Center, will be located in Eppley 115. We will continue to provide career services to all UNO students, in addition to providing academic advising for University Division students and coordinating First Year Experience courses. High-tech Classrooms and Labs Upgrading to Microsoft Office 2013

Information Services (IS) is upgrading all hi-tech classrooms in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) and 104 Durham Science Center (DSC) computer labs to Microsoft Office 2013, and this began Wednesday, Aug. 14.

How can you prepare?
1. Attend a Demonstration-- Transitioning to Microsoft Office 2013 (Word, Powerpoint & Excel). Dates are below:

3. Purchase Software for Home Use-- Become familiar with Microsoft Office 2013 by purchasing the Work-at-Home software. Active (those currently being paid by the University) staff and faculty (including graduate assistants and student workers) qualify to purchase a copy of Windows or Office for their personal computer. Software purchases are now completed online by credit card. The cost is $9.75. Please go to http://www.unomaha.edu/buysoftware to purchase and download the software.

What does this mean for you?
Same file formats: Files created in MS Office 07 or 2010 (Word, Powerpoint or Excel) can be opened and edited without issues in Office 2013. Files created in versions of MS Office older than 2007 may not open or may display with formatting changes.
