Schwalb Center Hosting Israeli Professor Aug. 15
On Thursday, Aug. 15, the Natan and Hannah Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies will host Professor Ido Perlman from the Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology.
Professor Perlman is the Pearl Seiden Professor of Vision Science and former dean of the Technion Faculty of Medicine. His visit to Omaha, which will begin on Aug. 14, is part of a tour to the U.S., organized by the American Technion Society. The visit will also include a tour of the new state-of-the-art Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and of UNO's College of Information Science and Technology.
The visit of the Schwalb Center will include a reception in Arts and Science Hall, Room 202.

The 2013 American Lung Association Corporate Cup on Sunday, September 15, will feature UNO in a big way--the 10K portion of the race will traverse UNO's Dodge and Pacific campuses as runners circle the area on their way to the finish line. The two-mile run will also pass by Mammel Hall, home of the UNO College of Business Administration. The remainder of the race will take place in Aksarben Village.

The Corporate Cup is among the largest of corporate road races in the United States, recently ranked 10th best 10K. From the first Corporate Cup in 1981, the event has experienced phenomenal success. In that first year, 29 companies entered and 681 runners crossed the finish line. In 2012, 262 companies entered with more than 11,000 registrants. Come celebrate the 33rd year of this great event and help the more than 200,000 Nebraskans who suffer from lung disease!
Nominations Sought for UNO Employee of the Month
Do you know a UNO employee who provides outstanding service to your department, the division or university as a whole? Why are you waiting? Nominate them for the 'Oh, What a Difference You Make!' Award (Employee of the Month) for office/service and managerial/professional staff. Nominations may be submitted by students, staff, faculty, visitors and administrators, and must meet the criteria listed below:
-Employed by UNO for one year or longer.
-Be in good standing.
- Performed job above and beyond expectations;
- Interpersonal skill/communication;
- Knowledge of job; and
-Recipients receive $200, “rock star” parking for that month, recognition and photograph with the Chancellor, recognition at the Board of Regents meeting, a lapel pin and beverage holder.
-An Employee of the Month qualifies to be selected as Employee of the Year.
To nominate an employee, print and complete the nomination form, and send it to Human Resources, EAB 205.

API Offering GarageBand Class Aug. 9
The Academic Partnership for Instruction (API) will offer a 'GarageBand' class for faculty and staff on Friday, Aug. 9.
GarageBand is a free audio editing suite on the 'MAC OSX' system that can be used to create music, audio and image-enhanced podcasts, and video podcasts. This 'hands-on' introductory class will cover the basic processes for importing video, images, sound tracks, and recording and adding audio--then editing these multimedia resources to create video podcasts. The last part of the class will cover sharing, exporting the 'video podcast' for computer, DVD, and web playback.
Class will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Kayser Hall 543.
