UNO Seeks Entries for Triathlon Aug. 24
The Omaha swimming & diving team will host its annual Methodist Hospital/UNO Women's Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Wehrspann Lake/Chalco Hills Recreation Area. This is the 21st year of the event which raises money for team travel expenses.
Female athletes of all abilities are invited to take part in the event which begins at 8 a.m. It includes a swim, bike and a walk/run throughout the Chalco Hills Recreation Area. The entry fee is $20 while late and race-day registration is $30. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. with a mandatory event meeting at 7:50 a.m. prior to the start.
All registrations before Aug. 14 will receive a t-shirt at check-in while those who register later will have their t-shirts mailed to them.

Join Team UNO in the Omaha Corporate Cup Featuring the UNO Campus
The 2013 American Lung Association Corporate Cup on Sunday, Sept. 15, will feature UNO in a big way--the 10K portion of the race will traverse UNO's Dodge and Pacific campuses as runners circle the area on their way to the finish line. The two-mile run will also pass by Mammel Hall, home of the UNO College of Business Administration. The remainder of the race will take place in Aksarben Village.
Join UNO's Corporate Cup Team for just $15 by clicking here and clicking on “Join Team” next to “University of Nebraska at Omaha.” With your help, UNO will be well represented at the Cup with a great team of students, faculty, staff and community members. The Corporate Cup is among the largest of corporate road races in the United States, recently ranked 10th best 10K. From the first Corporate Cup in 1981, the event has experienced phenomenal success. In that first year, 29 companies entered and 681 runners crossed the finish line. In 2012, 262 companies entered with more than 11,000 registrants. Come celebrate the 33rd year of this great event and help the more than 200,000 Nebraskans who suffer from lung disease!
Mark Your Calendars: Academic Majors Expo Sept. 17
The Academic & Career Development Center (ACDC) and student services staff across campus are collaborating to host an Academic Majors Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
This will be an opportunity for new and continuing students to learn more about academic majors offered at UNO and identify career options associated with majors.

On Tuesday, July 30, the Omaha World-Herald's editorial page published a staff editorial supporting a new educational academy for area superintendents. The academy, which will be run through the College of Education, begins in mid-September.
KVNO Talks to UNO Students About Homeland Security Awards
On Monday, July 29, graduate students Quinn Guilds, criminal justice, and Dan Harris, psychology, were interviewed by KVNO about recent recognition they both received from START (National Consortium for Studies of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism). Guilds will spent the Fall 2013 semester at the University of Maryland doing research for the Department of State while Harris will spend the next year continuing his research on the psychology of people who become involved and then leave extremist movements.
Faulkner Joins Lancers Staff
On Tuesday, July 30, the Omaha Lancers announced that John Faulker, a recent graduate of UNO and former goaltender for the men's hockey team, will serve as an assistant coach for the Omaha Lancers this upcoming season. This is the first coaching job for Faulkner at any level.
'Get to Know the O!' at Durango Days
'Get to Know the O!' is the perfect opportunity for area businesses and students to interact with each other creating a win-win situation for everyone! The event provides a marketing platform for those businesses looking to engage the college market in the place where they play, work and learn. Last year more than 1,500 students attended! This year's event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program Accepting Applications
The School of Public Administration would like to announce that its highly acclaimed professional development program – the Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program (CPM) is now accepting applications.
The Nebraska CPM program features twelve monthly hybrid sessions (six on campus and six online) which teaches managers and supervisors to adopt an outcome-based perspective on managerial behavior, create measures of individual and organizational performance, and develop and enhance their interpersonal skills.
The Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program is more than a collection of educational sessions. It is an organized course of study in supervision and management designed specifically for public managers. Participants not only attend on-campus sessions or post online, but during the period between sessions they also work on assignments and a significant capstone project that is of benefit to the participant's organization.
Applications for the 2013 cohort is limited. Don't miss this opportunity; the program won't be offered again until January 2015.

Heartland Commuter Challenge
Save money. Improve the ozone. Win Prizes! From August 1-31, metro area employees and students can bike, bus, carpool or walk to work, log those trips, and get awesome prizes. The 2013 Heartland Commuter Challenge is designed to reward not only those who take alternative transportation every day, but also those who want to try it for the first time. Everyone who participates is eligible for weekly raffle prizes. The three individuals with the most commutes and the three individuals with the most miles logged win grand prizes. The company with the most commutes and miles per participants gets bragging rights and a plaque.
The challenge is sponsored by the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) and Metro Transit. MAPA offers a FREE online carpool matching service for employees in the metro area, and Metro Transit's bus system stretches from West Omaha to downtown.
