Aviation Institute Partnering with Strategic Air & Space Museum for Hops, Props and Wings August 29

UNO's Aviation Institute is teaming up with the Strategic Air & Space Museum for their weekly Hops, Props, and Wings. Come out and learn more about what's going on at the Museum and Aviation Institute.

Purchase your tickets directly from the Aviation Institute and receive ½ price admission for adults. This is only available by purchasing your tickets in advance. The cost is $6 for adults and kids--this price is not valid at the museum, and Museum members receive free admission.

Cactus Hill will be performing. UNO alumnus, Scott Gaeta, is a member of the band.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Join Team UNO in the Omaha Corporate Cup Featuring the UNO Campus

The 2013 American Lung Association Corporate Cup on Sunday, September 15, will feature UNO in a big way--the 10K portion of the race will traverse UNO's Dodge and Pacific campuses as runners circle the area on their way to the finish line. The two-mile run will also pass by Mammel Hall, home of the UNO College of Business Administration. The remainder of the race will take place in Aksarben Village.

The Corporate Cup is among the largest of corporate road races in the United States, recently ranked 10th best 10K. From the first Corporate Cup in 1981, the event has experienced phenomenal success. In that first year, 29 companies entered and 681 runners crossed the finish line. In 2012, 262 companies entered with more than 11,000 registrants. Come celebrate the 33rd year of this great event and help the more than 200,000 Nebraskans who suffer from lung disease!

Geography-Geology Announces 6th Annual World Cinema Series

The UNO Department of Geography-Geology announces its 6th annual World Cinema Series.

The weekly series will run from Sept. 2 to Nov. 6 with two films shown at 6:15 p.m. and approximately 8:15 p.m. every Wednesday evening in the Eppley Administration Building Auditorium, Room 102.

The series starts with a short film from Senegal titled, “The Little Girl Who Sold the Sun,” and a feature film from Canada called, “Le Grande Seduction.”

“The films are shown in combination with my course GEOG 3050: Geography in Film,” said Michael Peterson, professor of geography at UNO. “We're inviting people from the UNO community to view the films along with our class.”

Other films in the world cinema series come from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore and South Africa.

KPTM Covers SummerWorks
On Thursday, July 25, KPTM provided coverage of a SummerWorks project at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue. As part of the project, 150 participants in the SummerWorks program helped build environmentally friendly artwork, which will remain on display at Fontenelle Forest through the end of summer.

On Thursday, July 18, the Ashland Gazette provided coverage of a renewal of a special research grant UNO has received from NASA. The grant funding is handled through the NASA Nebraska Space Grant Consortium.


Retirement Reception for Marilyn Brown August 1

After 25 years with Business and Finance, Marilyn Brown is retiring on Thursday, August 1. Please join us in honoring and celebrating her many years of dedicated service to UNO.

The August Welcome and Orientation Workshop for Graduate Assistants (GA), sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development, is scheduled for Monday, August 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The workshop will provide information about life as a GA at UNO, a table talk session linked to your specific assignment and a discussion of survival skills for graduate assistants. It's also a great opportunity to get to know other graduate assistants from across the campus. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served.
