UNO Seeks Entries For Triathlon Aug. 24

The Omaha swimming & diving team will host its annual Methodist Hospital/UNO Women's Triathlon on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Wehrspann Lake/Chalco Hills Recreation Area. This is the 21st year of the event which raises money for team travel expenses.

Female athletes of all abilities are invited to take part in the event which begins at 8 a.m. It includes a swim, bike and a walk/run throughout the Chalco Hills Recreation Area. The entry fee is $20 while late and race-day registration is $30. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. with a mandatory event meeting at 7:50 a.m. prior to the start.

All registrations before Aug. 14 will receive a t-shirt at check-in while those who register later will have their t-shirts mailed to them.

Twentieth Anniversary Production at Shelterbelt Theatre Features Prominent UNO Ties
On Tuesday, July 16, The Reader ran a story about the creation of Omaha's Shelterbelt Theatre and the role of UNO students in the theatre's 20-year history.

UNO alumnus Steve Hartman will direct the 20th anniversary performance of the show that started it all for the Shelterbelt Theatre."V of Geese" was performed in 1993 at Kilgore's Coffee Shop at 3225 California, which would eventually become the home of The Shelterbelt. This production featured UNO students Ken Blankenship, Alisha Hanson, Ken Jacobs and Scott Working.

This year's production will once again feature an all-UNO cast including Victoria Luther, Jack Landrie, Nicklaus Knipe, and Kris Fleeman.

Ebdon Discusses Detroit Bankruptcy
Carol Ebdon, associate professor of public administration, was a guest on the Tom Becka Show, 1290 KOIL, to discuss the bankruptcy protection filing of Detroit - the largest municipal organization to ever file for Chapter 11.

Sindhav Talks Bollywood
Birud Sindhav, associate professor of marketing and management, was interviews in a Thursday, July 18, issue of the Omaha World-Herald on the topic of Bollywood - India's answer to America's Hollywood. Filmstreams, a local theater, is showcasing a number of Bollywood movies over the next several weeks.

UNO-Sponsored Concert Series Announces Lineup
On Friday, July 19, the Omaha World-Herald published a story announcing the lineup of the Midtown Crossing Summer Concert Series. The event runs every Friday from Aug. 23 through Sept. 27 and is sponsored by UNO.

Graduate Assistant Campus Orientation August 19

The August Welcome and Orientation Workshop for Graduate Assistants, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development, is scheduled for Monday, August 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The workshop will provide information about life as a GA at UNO, a table talk session linked to your specific assignment and a discussion of survival skills for graduate assistants. It's also a great opportunity to get to know other graduate assistants from across the campus. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served.

As of July 16, 2013, the 2013-2014 Annual Salary Notification is accessible in Firefly via a link in ESS.

To access your salary notification in Firefly:
1. Click the Employee Self Service tab.
2. In the Payment section, click the Annual Salary Notification link.

The salary notification will open in PDF format. You can save it to your computer and/or print. Note: depending on your version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, the toolbar showing the print and save icons may not appear. To view the toolbar, press F8 on your keyboard.

This Annual Salary Notification link will remain in ESS until the following year and only the current year's notification will be accessible.

Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program is Now Accepting Applications

The School of Public Administration would like to announce that its highly acclaimed professional development program - the Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program (CPM) is now accepting applications.

The Nebraska CPM program features twelve monthly hybrid sessions (six on campus and six online) which teaches managers and supervisors to adopt an outcome-based perspective on managerial behavior, create measures of individual and organizational performance, and develop and enhance their interpersonal skills.

The Nebraska Certified Public Manager Program is more than a collection of educational sessions. It is an organized course of study in supervision and management designed specifically for public managers. Participants not only attend on-campus sessions or post online, but during the period between sessions they also work on assignments and a significant capstone project that is of benefit to the participant's organization.

Application for the 2013 cohort is limited. Don't miss this opportunity; the program won't be offered again until January 2015.
