Warren Buffett Visits Mammel Hall, Sends First Tweet

From April 29 through May 3, UNO celebrated 'Buffett Week.' On Thursday, May 2, CNN broadcast Buffett's live interview with Fortune Magazine, from Mammel Hall. During the interview, the Omaha native and former UNO professor, sent his first tweet: "Warren is in the house."

Last Day for Open Parking

Today, May 10, will be the last day for open parking on all UNO campuses. Areas that will still be enforced by violation will be reserved stalls, handicap stalls, and fire lanes and driveways.

Last Day to Sign the Community Engagement Center Beam

Due to last week's inclement weather, the center beam for the Community Engagement Center remains available for signing through today, May 10.

The beam is located by the sidewalk in between the Campanile and the Criss Library.

The entire campus community is encouraged to stop by and autograph this piece of UNO history!

Fanart: Works of Media Appreciation Exhibit Opens Today

Beginning today, May 10, artist Chris Knudtson will display a number of pieces, including bead mosaics, scale models and paintings based on pop culture iconography. The show will take place in the Criss Library's Osborne Family Gallery and be open during library hours, until June 21.

The opening reception for Fanart: Works of Media Appreciation will be Sunday, May 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the UNO Criss Library Osborne Family Gallery.

Spire Celebration of Keyboard Arts May 10 through May 12

The 19th annual Robert M. Spire Celebration of Keyboard Arts at UNO will feature a variety of recitals performed by local pianists Friday through Sunday, May 10 through May 12, in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

Campus Recreation Announces Summer Hours

Campus Recreation has begun its new summer building hours. Members can access the building Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Activity spaces close 15 minutes before closing time.

New Horizons Newspaper Profiles Chancellor Christensen
For their May edition, the New Horizon's newspaper, which serves the elder community of eastern Nebraska, published a feature on Chancellor John Christensen, which tells of how he grew up around UNO, eventually enrolling as a student, becoming a professor and ultimately becoming chancellor.

Allen Profiled for Trips to Kabul
Chris Allen, associate professor of communication, was profiled in the Omaha World Herald on Thurday, May 9, for his work with university students and professors at Kabul University in Afghanistan. Through a partnership with UNO, Kabul University is attempting to upgrade its journalism and communications programs.

UNO Mentioned in Feature on Buffett
On Wednesday, May 8, on the heels of the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting in Omaha, Bloomberg Business provided a piece on Buffett's strong support of women in the workplace and in positions of power within companies. A similar story was featured in the May 2 issue of The Omaha Reader. Both stories mentioned the on-campus interview Warren Buffett held with Fortune Magazine at Mammel Hall last Thursday.

Breazeale Quoted on Buffett Cancer Center Logo Design
Mike Breazeale, assistant professor of marketing, was quoted in the Omaha World-Herald on Thursday, May 9, about the new Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center logo, which he called "dynamic."

Ogallala Paper Talks Tree City, Tree Campus Designations
On Monday, April 29, the Ogallala newspaper discussed the city being named a Tree City USA. They mentioned the campuses around Nebraska that had been designated as a Tree Campus USA, one of which is UNO.

Nebraska Department of Labor to Offer Resume Assistance May 13

Representatives from the Nebraska Department of Labor will be at the Military and Veteran University Service Office (MaV USO) on Monday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to help military and veteran students beef up their resumes and assist with job searches.

Please stop by the office, located in 117 EAB, and take advantage of this great resource.

The Nebraska Department of Labor is considering continuation of this service on UNO's campus pending the amount of business they receive.

College of IS&T Round Table with Broes De Cat May 14

The UNO College of Information Science & Technology (IS&T) will welcome Broes De Cat to its round table discussion May 14. Broes De Cat will speak on the subject of "Recent Advances in Automated Search Algorithms."

Broes De Cat is a 2009 computer science graduate of KU Leuven, a research-intensive, internationally oriented university located in the heart of western Europe. His master's thesis focused on automatically adapting railway schedules in cases of unforeseen circumstances such as delays or material breakdown.

This talk will provide an overview of important developments in solving search problems and finding solutions to a given set of constraints. These involve integrating SAT with Constraint Programming and include lifting inference techniques to handle general input languages.

The roundtable will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 279 University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute. Pizza will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The presentation starts promptly at noon.

Advanced Junior Mav Camp

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Ages: 8-12
Cost: $100 (lunch provided)
Description: For players that want to improve in condensed yet thorough curriculum. Lunch will be provided each day.

Mini Mav Camp
Date: July 8-11
Time: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ages: 6-7
Cost: $60
Description: For boys and girls who are just starting and want to have fun. Be instructed by and play with current UNO players.
