ISO Offers Tips to Prevent Phishing
UNO's Information Security Office (ISO) wants to remind you that there have been multiple reports of "spear phishing." Spear phishing is highly specialized attacks against a specific target or small group of targets to collect information and gain access to systems. Any suspected "phishing" incidents can be reported at http://www.ic3.gov.
Don't reveal personal or financial information in an email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information. This includes following links sent in email.
Before sending sensitive information over the Internet, check the security of the website.
Pay attention to the website's URL. Malicious websites may look identical to a legitimate site, but the URL may use a variation in spelling or a different domain (e.g., .com versus .net).
If you are unsure whether an email request is legitimate, try to verify it by contacting the company directly. Contact the company using information provided on an account statement, not information provided in an email.
Keep a clean machine. Install and maintain anti-virus software, firewalls, and email filters to reduce spam.

Mavericks Move Up, Hold Ground in Polls
The Omaha hockey team moved up one spot to 13 in the latest weekly poll issued by the website USCHO.com while it maintained its spot at 14th in the latest poll compiled by USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.
This is the fourth straight week the Mavericks have been ranked 14th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. The Mavs have been ranked either 13 or 14 in USCHO.com poll since debuting at No. 18 five weeks ago.
UNO returns to action this Friday and Saturday night, Dec. 14-15, hosting No. 20 Minnesota State in its final games before the holiday break. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday's game starts at 7:07 p.m. Read more.Up to Top

Mail Services Holiday Shutdown Hours
Mail Services will be serving the campus community on a limited basis during the holiday shutdown. Only departmental postage will be applied daily (no sales of postage for personal use). The service counter window will be open from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 26-28 and Monday, Dec. 31, for anyone wishing to retrieve department mail.

Maverick Hockey Team Moves Up in Poll
On Monday, Dec. 10, KPTM, WOWT, and the Omaha World-Herald covered recent polls from USCHO.com and USA Today that have the Mavericks at No. 13 and No. 14, respectively. The team was ranked No. 14 in both polls last week before a split on the road with St. Cloud State.
Michael Grube, an information technology specialist, was quoted in the Omaha World-Herald on Saturday, Dec. 8, about how to best bike in the winter when temperatures drop and snow begins to fall.
UNO Winter Commencement Ceremonies to Take Place Dec. 15 at Sapp Fieldhouse
UNO's 2012 December Commencement ceremonies will be held this Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Sapp Fieldhouse at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The 10 a.m. event will include graduates at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level for the colleges of Arts and Sciences; Education; Engineering (UNL); and Communication, Fine Arts and Media. The 2 p.m. event will confer the same degrees to the colleges of Business Administration; Public Affairs and Community Service; Education and Human Sciences (UNL); and Information Science & Technology.
Fieldhouse doors open at 8 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ceremony, and noon for the 2 p.m. ceremony. There is open parking in campus parking lots during the commencement ceremonies. Lot N is reserved for designated handicap parking and Lot R is reserved for members of the Platform Party. Parking Lot Q is closed due to construction.
Faculty attending the ceremony should report to the Mav Café inside of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) building before 9:15 a.m. if they are part of the morning ceremony, and 1:15 p.m. if they are part of the afternoon ceremony. Members of the Platform Party should report to HPER 109 F and students should report to HPER 128 at the same times.

UNO Excellence in Teaching Nominations Now Being Accepted
The campus-wide Excellence in Teaching (EIT) award committee is now accepting nominations for 2013. This award was established in 1969 to recognize superior efforts, dedication and exemplary conduct in the performance of the university's first task -- the education of its students. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 18, 2013. Nominee application packets are due Feb. 15, 2013.
