On Friday, Aug. 18 many UNO Freshman and returning students started their Welcome Week early with an official move-in day for University Village.

UNO's newest residence hall, Scott Court, opened its doors to residents Sunday (Aug. 14) on the Pacific Street campus. Students are taking part this week in a variety of fun activities before classes start on Monday.
UNO Gerontology, Athletics to Host Athletes and Elders Launch Today
he UNO Department of Gerontology and UNO Athletics Department will launch the fourth year of the highly successful Athletes and Elders program at a special news event today, Aug. 17, at 1:30 p.m.
Throughout the school year, UNO Athletes and Elders: A Community of Interest matches UNO athletic teams with local elder care facilities in Omaha, allowing each team to visit the elders throughout the metro area.
The lead-off event will be held in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building and feature opening remarks from UNO Athletic Director Trev Alberts and festivities involving local elders, UNO coaches and student athletes. Read more.Up to Top
eSHOP Training Offered Today
Accounting Services will offer eSHOP training this August. Dates are: Aug. 17, 24 and 31. All sessions will take place on Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Accounting Services' Conference Room, 208 Eppley Administration Building. Registration is not required.Up to Top
2012-13 Parking Permit Sales – Purchase Online Now
Parking permits for the 2012-13 academic year are now available to purchase online at http://www.unomaha.edu/parking/, click on MavPark.
The site will require a NetID username and password (same as your Blackboard login) and vehicle information on vehicles owned that will be parking on campus. This information includes the vehicle's year, make, model, color and license plate number. Before going online, have this information available.
Parking permits ordered online must be picked up at the following locations:

FAUST to Present 'The Aliens' Outdoors Tonight
The Fine Arts University Student Theatre (FAUST) at UNO presents Annie Baker's The Aliens. The Aliens is directed by Steve Hartman. Performances continue tonight through Saturday, Aug. 17-18. All shows will be outdoors at the Castle of Perseverance, just north of the Weber Fine Arts Building. The house opens at 7:30 p.m. with an 8 p.m. curtain for all performances.

Group Ex Classes Kick Off Next Week
Looking to get fit this semester. If so, Campus Recreation and the Fitness and Wellness programs have teamed up to host a variety of Group Exercise classes this fall. Classes officially start on Monday, Aug. 20
Passes can be purchased at the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building Control Desk inside the atrium. Classes will be held in HPER.
This schedule is for Monday, Aug. 20 through Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. Adjusted schedules may be available. All classes are drop-in. No reservations needed and you may start attending at any point in the semester.

Carol Mitchell, Eureka! Featured in International Newspaper
Carol Mitchell, teacher education, was quoted in the Epoch Times, a New York-based, Chinese-run newspaper that distributes around the globe. Mitchell discussed UNO's recent Eureka! Greetings Sought for Tim Fitzgerald's 'Retirement Card Shower'
The UNO Women's Club (formerly the UNO Faculty Women's Club) in partnership with the Office of University Relations invites faculty, staff and students to participate in Tim Fitzgerald's "Retirement Card Shower." At the end of the month, he will retire as manager of Photography Services after 42 years of service to the university.
"A very special person to all of us will retire and be able photograph at his leisure," said Becky Means, UNOWC courtesy chair. "Many may not be able to attend -- so lets shower him with cards and best wishes in his retirement."
To honor his decades of service, a campus-wide reception is set for Thursday, Aug. 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom.
"We're showering him with cards, as he has showered us with his friendship and photographs over the years," Means said.
