Emergency Management Degree Approved, Will Start Fall 2012

Last week, Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education approved a new Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management for the College of Public Affairs and Community Service starting in the Fall 2012 semester. This follows approval by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

UNO already offers the Bachelors in General Studies with concentrations in Emergency Management and Fire Protection.  The approval of the new degree makes the major available to a wider range of students and makes UNO nationally competitive in this area.

“The field of Emergency Management is rapidly evolving, and needs more people with academic training in the profession,” said John Bartle, CPACS acting dean. “Salaries are good, and locating this program in the nationally-ranked School of Public Administration provides a solid foundation for future development.”

The Emergency Management degree will educate managers who can help communities plan and prepare to avoid emergencies, as well as respond and recover from both natural and man-made disasters.

For more information on the degree contact Joe Mancuso at 402.616.9434 or jsmancuso@unomaha.edu.
