Pond Construction Begins

Work is under way to bring a Bioretention Pond to UNO's campus. The new pond will greet visitors to the Welcome Center (map) (Hayden House) and pedestrians who happen upon it near the west end of Dodge Street Location.

2012-13 Parking Permit Sales Begin
Parking permits for the 2012-13 academic year are now available to purchase online at http://www.unomaha.edu/parking/, click on MavPark.
The site will require a NetID username and password (same as your Blackboard login) and vehicle information on vehicles owned that will be parking on campus. This information includes the vehicle's year, make, model, color and license plate number. Before going online, have this information available.
Permits are purchased online and must be displayed by Aug. 20, 2012.
Parking Services will mail your permit on Aug. 7 for all orders received by Friday, Aug. 3. After Aug. 3, online orders must be picked up at the following locations:
* Eppley Administration Building – Auditorium: Monday, Aug. 13 to Friday, Aug. 17
* Milo Bail Student Center – Council Room (third floor): Monday, Aug. 20 to Friday, Aug. 24;

Up to TopMav-Rec Wellness Morning Stretch This A.M. in DSC
Leaders are on vacation.Mav-Rec Wellness will offer a morning stretch program on Mondays and Fridays this summer. The program will be held at different buildings on campus. Today's (July 2) Morning Stretch will be held in the Durham Science Center Atrium (DSC).
The stretching is non-strenuous, and done in the standing or sitting position, so that all employees can attend regardless of attire. It is from 7:45 to 7:55 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays. Employees can take part, and make it to their worksites by 8 a.m.
Those who can't participate are encouraged to stretch at their worksites on their own. Click on this link for a list of stretches.

Up to TopRoad 2 Omaha Focus of Major Newspaper Story
A unique international education program – The Road 2 Omaha – received section-front attention in the Omaha World-Herald last week. Reporter Ross Boettcher from the Money section of the newspaper spent multiple days meeting and interviewing many of the 35 college students from China, Germany, India and Norway who were hosted by faculty, staff and students for the College of Information Science and Technology. Up to TopPKI Director Receives Prestigious Award
Michael McGinnis, executive director of the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI), located on the UNO campus, has recently received the prestigious Vance R. Wanner Memorial Award from the Military Operations Research Society (MORS).
The Vance R. Wanner Memorial Award, named after the first MORS executive secretary, is given each year to a military operations research professional that is deemed to have played a major role in strengthening the profession. The award has been given out since 1978. Read more.
Up to TopOLLAS Announces the Latest Issue of JOLLAS Is Now Available
The latest issue of the Journal of Latino/Latin American Studies (JOLLAS) is now available at http://www.unomaha.edu/ollas/jollas.php. JOLLAS is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal housed in the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies at UNO.
Up to TopLot U (Middle Level of East Parking Garage) Closed for Construction
Lot U is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, July 11, for installation of new overhead lights.
This work will start when overhead light installation is completed on the Lower Level, Lot T. Faculty/Staff with access to Lot U, will be able to enter Lot T. Watch for lot closed signs.
This project is estimated to be completed in approximately four weeks.

Up to TopSustainability Graphic Design Contest Under Way
Help spread the word about UNO's sustainability initiatives by entering a submission in GreenUNO's upcoming campus-wide design contest.
"A picture is worth a thousand words and we're hoping to find that right image to marry with our campus sustainability efforts," said Patrick Wheeler. "The winning graphic identifier will be displayed on GreenUNO's website and other materials."
Graphic identifier contest details:
* Original works only
* No words
* Image can be digital, painted or hand drawn
* Should broadly reflect sustainability
* Might reflect balance with nature/resources
* Might reflect education
* Does not need to include the color green
Submissions are accepted by mail from individuals without computer access: Environmental Health & Safety-EAB 209, Attn: Patrick Wheeler or emailed to pwheeler@unomaha.edu by Monday, July 30.
The GreenUNO Task Force will pick the winner. A prize will also be given for the winning design. The designs entered for the contest will be on display in the second floor Eppley Administration Building display window. Watch eNotes for details.
