UNO Prep Week 2011 Schedule of Events
Prep Week this year will be observed today through Friday, Dec. 5-9. To assist students in this age-old studying tradition; free refreshments, food and activities will take place throughout the week. All events this week will be free. Click on this link to view the full schedule.
Up to TopUNO Celebrates National Computer Science Education Week
The UNO Department of Computer Science has organized several events for National Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) this week. CSEdWeek aims to raise national awareness about the need for computer science education at all levels to prepare students for 21st Century careers and to underscore the transformative role computing plays in today's society.
All events this week take place at the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute Atrium. Events are free and open to the campus community and public. Student awards and presentations will be held today, Dec. 5. Posters featuring ongoing computer science research will also be on display all week starting today. The well-received panel, Beyond Grace Hopper: Women in Computing Careers, will be held again this year on Friday, Dec. 9.

schools competed to see who had the best knowledge of computer science and

The Department of Art and Art History will sponsor two lectures this week on BFA Art History Thesis Talks as part of the Willson Memorial Lecture Series. Today, Nov. 5, students Megan Straka-Drakeford and Erin Thompson will present their research thesis papers, and this Wednesday, Dec. 7, students Christine Lee, Elise Sunde and Ben Sloup will present. Both lectures are at noon in the UNO Art Gallery.

Up to TopUNO and Creighton Air Force/Army ROTC Conduct Food Drives
UNO and Creighton University Air Force and Army ROTC both have teamed up to host campus-wide food drives this week. Both ROTC's are helping to replenish the Hillsdale Community Food Bank.
"The South Omaha Food Bank was shutdown due to lack of food products," said Cpt. Tamra L. Holub, U.S. Army Blackwolves ROTC at Creighton. "Help the Army and Air Force ROTC to gather nonperishable canned food products for these children and their families."

Feedback is sought from all unomaha.edu users. To better assess usability and opportunities for improvement in the university's web presence, the Office of University's Relations has engaged the services of Survey Monkey to make an electronic "UNO Website User Survey" available to its users.
This survey is intended to measure both navigational and user needs. It will help University Relations' staff continue to refine unomaha.edu to meet individual (college/departmental/organizational) website requirements and align UNO's website with the current campus-wide rebranding campaign. Everyone's feedback is critical in guiding this effort. Individuals will also be given the opportunity to volunteer to be part of the focus group.
The survey for all users is posted online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/R3XYMCQ. The survey, which officially starts today, Dec. 5, will be posted through Sunday, Dec. 11, at which time it will be closed and the results tabulated.

Don't let the hustle and bustle of the holidays get you down, Faculty Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) Counselor Marlene Schneider says that stress is not uncommon this time of year. Schneider offers some tips to help make the holidays less stressful.
- Set realistic expectations;
- Don't spend money randomly. Set a limit (budget) and stick to it;
- Reduce your obligations – you don't need to attend every function;
- Relax;
- Laugh;
- Revisit the meaning of the holiday.

Up to TopAuthor David Osborne to Speak on Campus This Week
The College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS), in association with the Greater Omaha Chamber and Omaha Alliance for the Public Sector, is bringing David Osborne, author of several books on governmental and performance management, to the UNO campus this Wednesday, Dec. 7.
The event will take place at 1 p.m. in Bootstrapper Hall at the Thompson Alumni Center on the UNO campus. Osborne will provide a lecture about the impact of governmental budgeting on policy makers and taxpayers, which will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic. Read more.

The university community is invited to a retirement reception for Marti Rosen-Atherton this Thursday, Dec. 8, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Chancellor's Room. Rosen-Atherton, the director of Counseling/University Division, is retiring after more than 27 years of service to the students, faculty and staff of UNO.
