UNO Theatre Presents: 'The Government Inspector'

The UNO Department of Theatre opens its 2011-2012 season with an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's 'The Government Inspector,' about small-town Omaha in the 1860s, whose population tries to pay off a man who they believe is an inspector from the United States government.

UNO Child Care Center Open House Today
This year marks the 25th anniversary since the doors opened at UNO Child Care Center (UNOCCC). UNOCCC provides high quality child care and early education service for university families, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. To allow members from the UNO community a chance to check out the Center, staff will hold an Open House today, Sept. 29, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
"If you are interested in learning more about the UNOCCC please stop in during our open house to see the facility and meet the staff," said Dawn Hove, the Center's director.

Up to TopThis Saturday's Joslyn Lecture and Tour Explores Elkhorn River Watershed
Join Toby Jurovics, Joslyn chief curator, and Alan Kolok, director of the Aquatic Toxicology Laboratory at UNO, and interim director of the Center for Environmental Health and Toxicology at University of Nebraska Medical Center, in a discussion about the Elkhorn River watershed. Speakers will address the natural and cultural history of the river and ecological studies taking place at the Elkhorn River Research Station.
Following the discussion, Dr. Kolok will lead a tour of the research station for interested participants. Please note: space on the tour bus is limited and advance reservations are required. Admission to the program is free for Joslyn Members and free with regular museum admission for the general public.

The first floor of Arts and Sciences Hall (ASH) will be the site for a mini health fair on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

* Blood Pressure Measurement
* Personal Trainers from Health, Physical Education and Recreation
* Healthy snacks for sale
Information will also be available on mental health, sexually transmitted diseases and counseling services.

Up to TopUNO Jazz Ensembles, Trumpeter Provide Dizzy Gillespie Tribute Concert Oct. 5
UNO's Jazz
Ensembles, joined by world-renowned trumpeter Jon Faddis, will
provide a special concert tribute to legendary bebop artist Dizzie Gillespie on
Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The concert, which will also feature the Metropolitan Area Youth Jazz Orchestra
(MAYJO), will be held at the Strauss Performing Arts Center starting at 7 p.m.
The cost for the event is $10 for the general public and $5 for students and
seniors. UNO students, faculty and staff will be admitted for free with their

Students, Faculty, Staff Encouraged to Volunteer for Three Days of Service
Campus and community volunteers are needed for UNO's Three Days of Service. Three Days of Service teams people in the Omaha community with nonprofit organizations to perform the following service activities: rehabilitation of homes; cleaning neighborhoods; renovating gardens; painting; and sprucing up facilities.
Three Days of Service takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15; Monday, Oct. 17; and Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Participation in Three Days of Service allows volunteers to build their resumes; give back to community; and network with local and national organizations.
Volunteers will receive free lunch, a Three Days of Service T-shirt and transportation.
Check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. each day in the Milo Bail Student Center Fireplace Lounge. A light breakfast will be available. Volunteers will be transported via shuttle to a work site and be retrieved after 2 p.m., with shuttles arriving at UNO by 3 p.m. each day.
