This Week in UNO History... Don Leahy Selected as UNO Athletic Director
On July 30, 1974, Don Leahy was selected as UNO's new athletic director, replacing Clyde Biggers. Prior to coming to UNO, Leahy was director of coliseum activities at Ak-Sar-Ben and, before that, was head football coach and athletic director of Creighton Prep. At the time, Leahy's biggest struggle was finding UNO a conference affiliation, which was eventually accomplished in 1976 by joining the North Central Conference. Since his retirement in 1997, Leahy has remained a fixture on the UNO campus, and is currently serving as Associate Athletic Director under Trev Alberts.
