Arts and Sciences Hall: UNO's Cornerstone
Before the University of Nebraska at Omaha was even truly a campus, let alone part of the University of Nebraska system, almost all of its classes were held in what is today known as Arts and Sciences Hall. Opened for classes in 1938, the building that started it all will hit the 75th anniversary of its approval later this year and its diamond anniversary for construction next summer. continue . . .
The UNO flag is lowered to half-staff today, July 18, in honor of student Angelique Dewaele. She passed away June 29 at 39.
Dewaele was a junior enrolled in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service.
Services were held July 2, at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home, in Omaha.Up to Top
No Entry Fee Announced for UNO's Corporate Cycling Challenge Team
This event has been designated a UNO Mav-Rec Wellness event.
UNO will field another cycling team for the 21st Annual Corporate Cycling Challenge to be held Sunday, Aug. 21, beginning at Heartland of America Park, 8th and Douglas. New this year, Human Resources will cover the entry fee for UNO employees. The registration deadline is Friday, July 31.
"UNO has had significant representation at this event and with the fee waived and opening it up to family members we are hoping to continue the tradition with a much larger showing at this year's event," said Mike Grube, team captain and IT specialist for Support Services.
The waived fee only applies to people on the UNO payroll, including full- and part-time faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, graduate assistants and student workers. Spouses, significant others and children can participate for a $5 per person entry fee.
UNO participants can choose from several routes, distances and start times:
- Olde River Ride
- Riverside Ride
- Tour De Fort
UNO participants can sign up by returning the following packet (http://www.corporatecycling.com/Employee_Packet.pdf) to "Mike Grube in EAB 208N." The packet includes a waiver form that participants need to complete, as well as indicate their shirt size and riding distance choices. Everyone who returns a completed waiver will receive a free UNO Athletics T-shirt. Participants may also choose to purchase this year's official Corporate Cycling Challenge T-shirt for $10, proceeds of which are used for trail development in the Omaha Metropolitan area.
