June Employee of the Month: LaRon Chatmon

LaRon Chatmon, a custodial supervisor at UNO is one of those behind-the-scenes employees whom you may not ever work with, but you certainly experience and witness his work. He has worked here for almost 26 years and has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for June. "I enjoy the work here and I try to please the faculty, staff and my fellow workers," said Chatmon. He also has pleased his supervisors. One of whom wrote this nomination, "LaRon has demonstrated his abilities in a positive and professional manner. He is called upon as a 'catch all' supervisor and his knowledge and experience are relied upon quite often. LaRon exhibits the willingness to go above and beyond what is asked and expected of him."
College of Education to Host Lewis and Clark Students This Week
Students from Lewis and Clark Middle School will spend four days on campus this week for a portion of the district's summer
The students will participate in a variety of activities at UNO today, June 14, through Friday, June 17, from about 8:30 a.m. to noon each day. Each day's events are organized by UNO's College of Education.
More than 50 UNO faculty, staff and students will interact with the approximately 75 Lewis and Clark students and teachers. Read more.
NU Board of Regents to Meet This Friday
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet this Friday, June 17, at
Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. Committee meetings begin at 8 a.m.
and the Board meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. All meetings are open to the public.
Meetings also will be audio-streamed live at http://www.nebraska.edu.

UNO Housing Showcase Set for This Saturday
UNO will be provide another Housing Showcase this Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an opportunity for current students, perspective students and families to tour any of the housing facilities available on campus.
"This is a great opportunity for those that might still be interested in securing on-campus housing for Fall or those that will already be living with us to see their new community," said Bill Picket, director of University Housing.
The showcase will start at the Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine Street. Participants can take the free shuttle to Maverick Village/University Village or drive and park across the street.

Foreign Liability Coverage Extended for 2011-2012
UNO is in the process of extending foreign liability insurance for the 2011-12 fiscal year. The university's Foreign Liability Coverage Policy requires clarification regarding upcoming travel. All estimated travel must be submitted by this Wednesday, June 15.
Faculty and staff anticipating foreign travel in the coming year are asked to provide Risk Management with the best estimates. Click on this link for employee and student travel details.

Human Resources Reminder on June Biweekly Paydays
Human Resources staff would like to remind the campus community that this month has three biweekly paydays: June 2, 16 and 30. No standard deductions will be taken from the June 30 biweekly payroll.
Regular biweekly-paid employees will not have NUCREDITS included or standard deductions (insurance, parking, etc.) withheld. Get High Marks In 2010-11
UNO student-athletes' achievements in the classroom ran side-by-side with their long list of achievements in competition during 2010-11 season. As a group, the Mavericks finished the year with a combined grade point average of 3.18 and earned numerous academic awards along the way.
The Dean's List was thoroughly populated by UNO student-athletes during the 2010-11 year. One Hundred-Twenty Mavericks made the Dean's list (3.5 GPA or better) in the fall and another 136 made the same list in the spring. Additionally, 28 earned Chancellor's List honors in the fall (4.0 GPA) while 26 made the list in the spring. Read more.
