UNO Dean Earns Award for Chicago Documentary
A documentary on the history of Chicago's African-American community, co-written by a dean from UNO, has received the prestigious Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club, the nation's largest Society of Professional Journalists chapter.
Gail F. Baker, dean of UNO's College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media, co-wrote "DuSable to Obama: Chicago’s Black Metropolis," which shares Chicago’s story through the voices of residents, scholars, artists, politicians and business leaders. The film features interviews with Carol Moseley-Braun, Jerry Butler, Margaret Burroughs, John Rogers, Bobby Sengstacke and Lalah Hathaway.
Baker shares the writing credits with the film's two producers, Barbara E. Allen and Dan Andries.
"DuSable to Obama" was recognized May 6 in Chicago with the 2010 Lisagor for Exemplary Journalism in Public Affairs Programming. Read more.

Up to TopHuman Resources Reminder on June Biweekly Paydays
Human Resources staff would like to remind the campus community that this month has three biweekly paydays: June 2, 16 and 30. No standard deductions will be taken from the June 30 biweekly payroll.
Regular biweekly-paid employees will not have NUCREDITS included or standard deductions (insurance, parking, etc.) withheld. Federal and state taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes, retirement and credit union deductions will be taken. For more information, contact payroll at (402) 554.2325.
Up to TopHosting Opportunities for UNO International Students
The International Studies & Programs (IS &P) staff at UNO are looking for individuals or families to host international students who are learning English and want a taste of American life.
Stays start at four weeks and can last up to six months or a year. A monthly stipend is provided to offset the cost of food and transportation.
The goal of home stays is to give the participating international students an American family experience. Host families within walking distance of campus may have IS&P staff periodically visit.

Campus summer food service hours are now set. Currently, the Milo Bail Student Center's American Grill, Greenfields, D'Cafe and Grab & Go are open from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Library Cafe and MavRec Cafe are now keeping the same 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday schedule.
Starting Monday, June 6, Tomasittos will also be available in the student center.
