UNO and Beveridge Middle School Team Up to Celebrate Malcolm X

Together with the UNO Service Learning Academy and Meredith Bacon's Minority Politics Course, middle school students from Beveridge presented the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation with a mural to hang in their visitor center.
Filling Backpacks to the Brim

During the spring semester, UNO's Staff Advisory Council collected nearly 5,500 highlighters for the Salvation Army's Back-to-School Backpack Program. Creighton University and College of St. Mary also collected school supplies for the Salvation Army program earlier this year.

Flag Lowering
Andrew Schroeder
The UNO flag is lowered to half-staff today, May 25, in honor of student Andrew Schroeder. Schroeder, 18, was a freshman enrolled in the College of Business Administration. He was also a member of UNO's Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Schroeder passed away May 21. He was a 2010 graduate of North High School in Omaha.
The campus community is invited to Schroeder's memorial service today at 1 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom.
Jerome Drakeford
The UNO flag will be lowered to half-staff Thursday, May 26, in honor of instructor Jerome Drakeford. He passed away May 20 at age 62.
Drakeford, an instructor in the Department of Mathematics, had taught at UNO for more than 16 years. Before joining the Mathematics Department staff in 2002, he also worked as a math and science tutor for Project Achieve.
Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neil-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Funeral Home, 545 Willow Ave., in Council Bluffs, Iowa. A 1 p.m. funeral service is set for May 26 at the mortuary's Park Chapel. Memorials can be sent to Project Achieve at UNO.

The UNO Bookstore will remain closed through Friday, May 27, for its annual physical inventory and Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 30. It will reopen Tuesday, May 31, and resume regular summer hours:
- Monday and Tuesday
7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesday through Friday
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Up to TopIS Offers June 3 Adobe Connect 8.0 Brownbag
UNO Information Services (IS) will host an Adobe Connect Brownbag Friday, June 3, in the Milo Bail Student Center Council Room from noon to 1 p.m. Join IS staff for a demonstration and see how Connect 8 can benefit you.
The Brownbag will demo Adobe Connect 8.0 a web collaboration, e-learning system used at UNO to conduct online classes, meetings and presentations with participants worldwide. Connect sessions can be live and/or recorded for 24/7 playback. Each session can incorporate, audio, video, slide presentations, white boards, website display, polls, file exchange and desktop sharing. And its new user interface makes creating online classes even easier.
In short, most of the instructional technologies used in on-campus classes are available in Adobe Connect for teaching online.
