Undergraduate Catalog Changes Due This Wednesday

The deadline to submit changes for the 2011-12 UNO Undergraduate Catalog will be later than usual this year. Changes should be submitted to Tim Kaldahl, University Relations, 211 Eppley Administration Building, before Wednesday, Dec. 15.

The implementation of the University General Education curriculum will require extensive changes in the Undergraduate Catalog. The catalog for next year will have a University General Education section developed by the University General Education Committee.  Effective Fall 2011, incoming students will choose from a common set of courses for their university general education requirements which are accepted in all colleges and majors.

The colleges and degree programs may also have specific college or program requirements, but those requirements are distinct from the university general education requirements and catalog copy will need to be revised to reflect the changes.

Colleges and programs should begin reviewing their catalog copy, as well as specific requirements, in preparation to submitting catalog copy before the end of the semester.

For more information, call (402) 554.3502.

Campus Security Offers Holiday Safety Tips

The Campus Security staff would like to remind the campus community of some common sense safety tips to practice during the holiday season.

- When a person leaves his or her room or office, lock it up, even if it's only for a few minutes.

- Avoid leaving valuables or packages in plain view in a vehicle. Place them in the trunk or between the seats. When possible, do so before parking.

- During the holiday break, take valuables home from campus offices and residence halls.

- Anyone who is going to be working on campus late in the evening or when few people are around should consider advising Campus Security so that an officer can pay special attention to the area.

- Anyone entering a locked residence hall or campus building should make sure the door closes completely. Strangers should not follow anyone into a secure building.

- Students who live on campus and are leaving town for the holidays should make sure they have someone keeping an eye on their residence and leave emergency contact information.

For more information, call Campus Security at (402) 554.2648.

Campus Recreation Siena/Francis House Drive

Campus Recreation is collecting gently used clothing for the Siena/Francis House. The Siena/Francis House provides clothing to guests in their overnight shelter.

In an average year, Siena/Francis House will provide more than 20 tons of clothing to persons who are homeless. During an abnormally hard winter, this number will go up substantially, creating a greater need for this basic life necessity. Clothing bins will be placed at the entrance of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building through Thursday, Dec. 16.

For questions, contact Angie Helseth at (402) 554.3185 or Ashley Bails at (402) 554.3917.
