Flag Lowering

Gov. Dave Heineman has ordered U.S. and Nebraska flags at all state buildings and facilities to be flown at half-staff today, Dec. 7, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Obama. The order honors Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This day of remembrance pays tribute to those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

Campus Holiday Open House Today

Chancellor John Christensen, Senior Vice Chancellor Terry Hynes and Vice Chancellor Bill Conley invite faculty and staff to attend UNO's annual campus holiday open house. The event will take place today, Dec. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom.

Flu Shots Still Available at SHS

It's not too late. Flu shots are still available from UNO's Student Health Services (SHS).
UNO Student Health Services is now located in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building atrium. A flu shot station will also be available near today's campus holiday open host in the Milo Bail Student Center from 3 to 5 p.m.

The cost is $15 for students with ID; and $20 for faculty, staff and others. For possible Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) reimbursement, faculty and staff should bring a BCBS insurance card. SHS office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UNO Bookstore Book Buyback Starts Tomorrow

The UNO Bookstore will be having their end-of-semester Book Buyback Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 8-17. Current picture ID is required.

Estimated buyback prices can be viewed at http://unobookstore.com/, click on "cash for books."

UNO Bookstore hours during Book Buyback:

- Monday through Thursday
7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Friday
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Saturday, Dec. 11

Criss Library Online Scholastic Book Fair

Moving Company to Celebrate 75th Anniversary This Sunday

UNO will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of The Moving Company, the university's modern dance company, during the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 12. Events start at 1 p.m. in the Dance Lab of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building.

"The Moving Company is one of the oldest university modern dance companies in the world," said Josie Metal-Corbin, the company's director and professor in the College of Education. "We very much enjoy having the campus community and public come to our lab and see what we do and how we rehearse." Read more.

Campus Recreation's brand-new Massage Therapy Rooms (Mav-Rec Massage) are celebrating the upcoming holidays by offering a massage holiday special now through Friday, Dec. 31.

NCNW Conducts Winter Drive for Metro Seniors through Dec. 17

In an effort to help out seniors in the metropolitan area, the UNO Collegiate Section of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) will conduct a "basics" drive during the cold winter months. NCNW are asking that members of the UNO community donate toiletries, small snack foods, blankets, slippers and/ or footie socks.

All donations are directly provided to the seniors in Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly program. Items will be put together in NCNW's winter care packages and delivered to Omaha elderly friends before Christmas. The deadline for donations is Friday, Dec. 17.

HR Announces 2010 Holiday Closedown Schedule

Human Resources staff announces the holiday closedown for 2010, which will begin Friday, Dec. 24, and conclude Friday, Dec. 31. Staff will return to work Monday, Jan. 3, 2011.

Regular biweekly employees normally would report this period as follows:
Dec. 24, Holiday (HOL)
Dec. 27, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 28, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 29, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 30, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 31, Holiday (HOL)
Essential non-exempt (hourly) employees required to work a holiday will be paid for the holiday plus the hours worked. An employee, with departmental approval, may also elect to save a floating holiday for later use and be paid only for the hours worked.

Regular salaried monthly employees normally would report this period as follows:
Dec. 24, DO NOT POST
Dec. 27, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 28, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 29, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 30, Floating Holiday (FLH)
Dec. 31, DO NOT POST
Individuals that do not have a Floating Holiday balance (FLH), may use Vacation (VAC), Day Off (DOFF), unpaid leave (UNPL), Comp Time Used (CMU), in lieu of Floating Holiday.

The December Monthly payday will be Dec. 31.

The Biweekly payday will be Dec. 30. Since this will be the third biweekly payday in the month of December, no standard deductions will be taken or NU CREDITS added to this check.

UNO Employee Discount Program Available

With holiday shopping here, just a reminder that members from the UNO community can still take advantage of the UNO/Perkspot online savings program.

UNO is the first campus in the University of Nebraska system to use the PerkSpot service. UNO continues to partner with PerkSpot to offer an Employee Discount Program for all UNO faculty, staff, retirees and students.

For easy reference, a website with a listing of participating local stores and online vendors, is available for faculty, staff, retirees and students to view. To take advantage of the UNO Employee Discount Program, eligible participants need to first register for an account with PerkSpot.

SOLP to Host 'Catalyst by Leadershape' Feb. 26

Student Organizations and Leadership Programs (SOLP) will host "Catalyst by Leadershape" on Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) Nebraska Room from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The program is designed to allow students the time and space to consider powerful questions that move toward action. Program content will encourage students to get real about their leadership style and skills, while providing an environment for growth. Participants will also walk away with a workbook that will have been used to capture their core skills, strengths, and interpersonal style attributes as well as the communities, organizations, and causes they care about. In addition, they will have identified specific initial contributions and commitments they intend to make as a result of these discoveries. Catalyst is open to 60 participants and registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Registration will open on Monday, Jan. 10, and close once program capacity is reached. Cost for the program is $10, payable in the MBSC Business Office by cash, credit/debit, MavCard, or departmental cost center. Registration forms will be available in the MBSC Business Office, in the SOLP Office, and online at http://studentorgs.unomaha.edu.
