Donors Honored at Roskens Hall Ground Breaking

Bill and Ruth Scott and Dr. George Haddix were honored Thursday (8-19) at the ground breaking ceremonies held for UNO's Roskens Hall. The Scotts and Dr. Haddix are the principal donors for the renovation of the old College of Business Administration building which will become the new home for UNO's College of Education.

Student Health Services (SHS) will host an open house today,
Aug. 31, in celebration of the department's grand opening at its new location.
The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the newly renovated Health,
Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building.
SHS staff looks forward to serving the UNO community at its new HPER location, located near the HPER atrium.
Open house events:
- Tours;
- Blood pressure checks;
- "Ask a Nurse Practitioner" session;
- Brief orthopedic assessment with Dr. Walsh;
- Brief screening by a UNO counselor;
- Information on student insurance;
- Visit from a UNO athletic trainer and UNO Injury Prevention and Care staff.

Human Resources, Mav-Rec Wellness and Student Health
Services have teamed up to host "You Look MAVelous! Challenge" this fall
on campus. The campus community can join in cheering on the teams and
participate in the wellness booths today, Aug. 31, in the atrium of the newly
renovated Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building from 11
a.m. to 1 p.m.
Teams, each consisting of a minimum of 10 faculty, staff or students, make up the campus fitness and fall weight loss challenge. Each participant will receive a "You Look MAVelous!" bracelet and wellness calendar.
"The sponsors are here to educate and offer support systems for the coaches," said Mollie Anderson, director of Human Resources. "As a reminder of the challenge, participants will wear a ‘You Look MAVelous!' team bracelet on their eating hand on and off campus."
The team weigh-ins will take place Aug. 31 throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at HPER. There are four weigh-ins total. Only today's weigh-in and the final weigh-in on Monday, Nov. 15, are mandatory.

Up to TopOLLAS, Film Streams Biennial Film Series Continues Tonight
Film Streams and the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) at UNO second biennial Cinemateca series celebrating Latino, Latin American and Spanish cinema continues tonight, Aug. 31, with SIN NOMBRE, at Film Streams' Ruth Sokolof Theater (1340 Mike Fahey St.).
Each Tuesday during the series, Film Streams and OLLAS will present a special screening and post-show discussion led by OLLAS faculty members. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample food from local restaurants at select Tuesday night shows, including screenings of tonight's SIN NOMBRE, TALK TO HER (Sept. 14), MACHUCA (Sept. 21) and CENTRAL STATION (Sept. 28). Up to TopHR to Host Reverse Mortgage Seminar Sept. 15
Human Resources and Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Nebraska (CCCSN) will co-sponsor the first Smart Money Seminar of the semester on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Gallery Room. The topic – "What is a Reverse Mortgage?"
CCCSN staff will offer tips on a reverse mortgage, which is available to seniors. This type of loan releases the home equity in the property as one lump sum or multiple payments. CCCSN is a non-profit community service organization and a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
A brown bag seminar, participants are invited to bring their lunch.

A reception for David Cicotello, director of New Student Enrollment Services and 2009-10 interim associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs, will take place Friday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom. Cicotello recently accepted a position as associate vice provost for Admissions and Enrollment Services at Middle Tennessee State University.

The UNO Bookstore has implemented additional procedures, effective immediately, for all departmental charges to a cost center number and university-purchasing card.
They are:
- UNO ID is now required at the time of purchase when charging to a cost center number. Department name and department phone number will still need to be supplied.
- UNO ID or driver's license is now required when using a university purchasing card.
- Signature and legible printed name will both be required on all university purchases.

Filmmaker and journalist Bruce Burgess goes deep into the heart of the greatest secret of the 20th Century: Area 51 ("Dreamland") in this award-winning documentary. Admission is free and open to all.

The Nebraska Certified Public Manager ® (CPM) Program is now accepting applications for its 2011 class.
The Nebraska CPM program is a nationally accredited comprehensive management development program. The UNO School of Public Administration launched the CPM Program in January of 2009. The program's primary purpose is to foster and encourage the highest possible levels of performance and ethical practice in public and nonprofit managers. Applications for the 2011 Omaha class of Nebraska CPM are due by Tuesday, Nov. 30. Each application will be reviewed upon receipt of completed packets.

Receives Three Nebraska Broadcasters Awards
The Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA) presented KVNO
90.7 FM with three 2010 Awards of Excellence at its ceremony Aug. 12 in
Lincoln. This is the second consecutive year that KVNO programming and
producers have been recognized by industry peers for broadcasting excellence.
Robert Franklin, director of UNO Television and KVNO Radio Media Operations, garnered a gold (first place) Best Public Service Program award as producer on the radio documentary "Homeless in Nebraska." Other awards included a bronze (third place) Best In-Depth News award for "Graffiti Debate" produced by KVNO News Director Robyn Wisch, and a silver (second place) Best Play-by-Play award for the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) vs. Washburn University Men's Basketball game, announced by David Gustafson of UNO Athletics and executive produced by KVNO.
