Information Services Launches New Postini Anti-Spam Service Today
UNO's Information Services (IS) implemented a new anti-spam service for all Lotus Notes e-mail starting today, Aug. 9. This solution – Postini – identifies the majority of spam before it even gets to the UNO e-mail servers. Current statistics show that 87 percent of the e-mail received by UNO is spam or phishing and contains viruses or worms.
All faculty and staff will have this service available and enabled by default. Personal customization settings will include:
- Requesting notification of quarantine messages;
- Various e-mail delivery preferences; and
- Opting out of having any e-mail quarantined or held for later review.
Through individual control, the Postini Anti-Spam service will help faculty and staff receive fewer unwanted messages. A point to remember: No matter what precautions are put into place, some spam will get through. That is the nature of Internet e-mail. E-mail messages left in a Postini Message Center Trash more than three days will be automatically deleted.
Please delete or deliver all mail from your old anti-spam inbox before Monday, Aug. 16. To access the old inbox go to http://antispam.unomaha.edu and select the login for Barracuda Anti-Spam.
To access the Postini Anti-Spam service:
1. A daily quarantine summary message will be sent to your inbox with the subject line of "Spam Quarantine Summary." Open this message and click the "Message Center" link to access full Postini functionality
2. Access the Postini AntiSpam Service online at http://antispam.unomaha.edu. To open the Postini Anti-Spam inbox, a current faculty or staff or ID, is needed.
The Postini Anti-Spam information support website is located at http://its.unomaha.edu/antispam.php. The site includes FAQ's and a general "How to" guide. For more information, contact Information Services Technical Support at (402) 554.HELP (4357) or email@example.com.Up to Top

New mavlink Interface Reminder for Faculty
mavlink Faculty Support Team members remind faculty that UNO has transitioned from E-BRUNO to mavlink over the summer. Faculty members need to know about changes that have been made to the interface.
Faculty who logged on to mavlink during the spring or early summer might have seen both a "Faculty Center" and a "PeopleSoft" button (and possibly a "Staff" tab as well). These have now all been collapsed under the "Faculty Center" button to eliminate navigating back and forth for faculty members who also serve as advisors. Screens will not have all of the advising functions for those who do not serve as advisors.
The team continues to work on training tutorials, training sessions and a website, where faculty can find mavlink information. A mavlink faculty support website has been created at http://www.unomaha.edu/mavlinkfaculty. The website is continually being updated and if there are any questions or comments about the content, contact one of the team members.
Watch eNotes for more information, and let team members know of any questions or concerns at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact a mavlink Faculty Support Team member directly at:

New Office Trash Removal Schedule Under Way
Since last week, custodial staff have been emptying office desk-side trash and recycling only on Fridays. Centralized office trash and recycling containers located throughout every campus building will continue to be emptied on a daily basis along with trash and recycling containers in classrooms and public spaces.
With the success of the recycling efforts on campus, much of the trash stream has been diverted to recycling containers, leaving office desk-side trash removal less critical on a daily basis. This change in trash collection, supported by Chancellor's Cabinet, will maximize the use of custodial staff for other needed activities.
Anyone with questions about their building trash or recycling containers locations should contact UNO Custodial Services at 554.2656 or 554.2395.Up to Top
Single Payment Billing Starts With the Fall Semester
Beginning with the fall 2010 semester, UNO will introduce a single payment billing schedule instead of the two-payment option that was previously available to students. This change is in conjunction with the University of Nebraska system-wide implementation of the new PeopleSoft student information system software.
"The revised single payment billing schedule helps to streamline the billing process and provides a common payment schedule from semester to semester," said Bill Conley, vice chancellor for Business and Finance.
The fall 2010 billing statement will be generated on Monday, Aug. 30, with the payment due in full on Thursday, Sept. 23.
In addition, E-bills will be the only method of sending out billing statements. Students will no longer have the option to receive paper-billing statements by mail. Therefore, it is very important for students to monitor their UNO e-mail accounts.
Students or parents who have questions or concerns should contact the Cashiering/Student Accounts Office at 554.2324 or email@example.com.Up to Top
