UNO Aviation Students Meet FAA Administrator

The UNO students and faculty advisor Byers met FAA Administrator Babbitt at the 82nd annual American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) conference and exhibition in Dallas. The three-day event provided education and networking opportunities for UNO's aviation students. They also met the incoming chair of AAAE, Jim Bennett, executive director of the Abu Dhabi Airport Authority.

Despite the rain, music fans popped open their umbrellas and surrounded UNO's Henningson Memorial Campanile on Sunday morning for the annual July 4th Carillon Concert. UNO carilloneur Shannon Richards ascended the tower to the keyboard to perform 30 minutes of patriotic music.
Instructors Sought for Lifelong Learning Initiative
Lifelong Learning instructors are currently being sought for the fall semester. All areas and disciplines are encouraged to participate.
"It's fun, and gives you a chance to share what you know with eager students over the age of 50," said Patty Adams, director of UNO's Lifelong Learning Initiative.

Academic Regalia Notice for Aug. 13 Commencement
Commencement for August graduates will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, at Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Avenue. Faculty members are asked to assemble no later than 1:30 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.

Summer Faculty Recruitment Workshop Tomorrow
The UNO Office of Academic and Student Affairs and the UNO Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity will host two Summer Faculty Recruitment Workshops this month. The first is set for Thursday, July 15.
Before anyone can serve on a UNO Faculty Search Committee they must have attended one of these recruitment workshops within the past two years. Anyone anticipating search committee involvement is encouraged to register and participate.

Annual Workshops for New Faculty/Graduate Assistants Set for Aug. 16-17
The 2010 New Faculty Workshop and the Graduate Assistant Workshop, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), will take place Monday, Aug. 16. The faculty workshop will continue Tuesday, Aug. 17.
These workshops have been a tradition at UNO for more than 30 years. They provide new faculty and new teaching assistants with an opportunity to meet one another in an informal setting while learning about UNO, including information about the university's metropolitan mission and strategic goals, students, academic support services and faculty development opportunities.Up to Top
Current Faculty/Staff Picnic Aug. 17
Food, fun and free prizes will take center stage on campus Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the 2010 UNO Faculty/Staff Picnic. The event - sponsored by Chancellor John Christensen, the Staff Advisory Council and Faculty Senate - will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom. This year's picnic will feature a tropical theme.
The picnic is for currently employed faculty and staff members only. R.S.V.P. registration forms must be submitted to Kim Kronschnabel in 109 Eppley Administration Building by Wednesday, July 28, to be eligible for the prize drawings. Criss Library Theater Room Now Open
Criss Library announces the opening of its new theater room. Designed for group viewing (eight chairs) and scholarly discourse, this room is equipped with a Sony Blu-ray player, nine channel AV receiver, HD projector, 110-inch screen, iPod docking station, PC, wireless keyboard and mouse.

Participants Sought for UNMC Smoking Cessation Study
event has been designated a UNO Mav-Rec Wellness event.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing is seeking smokers 19 years of age and older to participate in a research study about thoughts and feelings related to classes about genetic contributions to smoking (IRB #226-09-FB).
A stipend is available for participation. Eligible individuals must smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day and have an interest in stopping smoking within the next month.
This study includes:
- Participation in classes on either genetic or nutritional education;
- Participation in a group smoking cessation program with an FDA-approved nicotine patch; and
- Participation in data collection five times during the study.
