Meeting the Mayor

Eight high school government teachers and 25 high school students from across Nebraska took part in the Nebraska Civic Leadership Conference at UNO last week. Participants during the six-day conference focused on local and state government issues in classes taught by UNO faculty. They also met a variety of city officials, including Mayor Jim Suttle.
New Student Theatre Group Debuts Original Production July 28-31
The Collective Unconscious Theatre, in conjunction with UNO, will debut its new organization with the premiere of invisibles, which closely examines capitalist society, exploitation and the working poor.

Annual Workshops for New Faculty/Graduate Assistants Set for Aug. 16-17
The 2010 New Faculty Workshop and the Graduate Assistant Workshop, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), will take place Monday, Aug. 16. The faculty workshop will continue Tuesday, Aug. 17.
These workshops have been a tradition at UNO for more than 30 years. They provide new faculty and new teaching assistants with an opportunity to meet one another in an informal setting while learning about UNO, including information about the university's metropolitan mission and strategic goals, students, academic support services and faculty development opportunities.Up to Top
Eppley Display Window Available to Sanctioned Groups
The display window on the second floor of the Eppley Administration Building is available for use on a monthly basis by UNO academic and administrative units and campus-sanctioned organizations. The window is currently available during the months of July through December 2010.

Parking Closing Notice for Shakespeare on the Green
Several parking stalls will be unavailable on performance dates near this summer's Shakespeare on the Green site at Elmwood Park, adjacent to UNO at the Dodge Location. Signs will be posted.
The Shakespeare on the Green performance dates are Thursday through Sunday, July 8-11.
Designated stalls will be closed all day so stalls can be reserved for performance nights. Those affected include Lot Q (west side) and Lot M (south end). In addition, on July 8, additional stalls will be reserved in Lot M.

Participants Sought for UNMC Smoking Cessation Study
This event has been designated a UNO Mav-Rec Wellness event.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing is seeking smokers 19 years of age and older to participate in a research study about thoughts and feelings related to classes about genetic contributions to smoking (IRB #226-09-FB).
A stipend is available for participation. Eligible individuals must smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day and have an interest in stopping smoking within the next month.
This study includes:
- Participation in classes on either genetic or nutritional education;
- Participation in a group smoking cessation program with an FDA-approved nicotine patch; and
- Participation in data collection five times during the study.
