Eight high school government teachers and 25 high school students from across Nebraska took part in the Nebraska Civic Leadership Conference at UNO last week. Participants during the six-day conference focused on local and state government issues in classes taught by UNO faculty. They also met a variety of city officials, including Mayor Jim Suttle.
Aviation Student Soars to New Heights

Classical 90.7 KVNO and Others Join Forces for 'Kids in Concert'
Kids in Concert will kick off July 1 to ask for the donation of instruments to the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) Musical Instrument Department. Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will air Thursday, July 1, through Tuesday, Aug. 31, to encourage the community to donate used musical instruments to students in OPS who want to pursue instrumental music but whose families are unable to purchase or rent an instrument. OPS will rehabilitate and distribute the instruments to deserving students.
Instruments can be taken to the OPS Teacher Administration Center (TAC), 3215 Cuming St., Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Bookworm at Countryside Village, 8702 Pacific St., is also collecting instruments. Additional drop-off sites in other parts of the city are needed. Information is available at 557.2443 and the contact is June Nelson.

Hy-Vee Dietician to Present Wellness and Nutrition Seminar Today
event has been designated a UNO Mav-Rec Wellness event.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to hear Hy-Vee dietitian Karisa Jansen as part of UNO Human Resources Summer Wellness and Nutrition Series. The brown-bag series continues today, June 29, with tips on adopting a heart-healthy diet.

Annual August Workshops for New Faculty/Graduate Assistant Set for Aug. 16 and 17
The 2010 New Faculty Workshop and the Graduate Assistant Workshop, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), will be held Monday, Aug. 16. The Faculty Workshop will continue Tuesday, Aug. 17.
These workshops have been a tradition at UNO for more than 30 years. It provides new faculty and new teaching assistants with an opportunity to meet one another in an informal setting while learning about UNO—our metropolitan mission and strategic goals, our students, our academic support services and faculty development opportunities.Up to Top
Annual Workshops for Part-time Faculty
Workshops for all part-time faculty at UNO are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Aug. 18 and 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service Collaborating Commons.
The agenda is the same each evening and faculty should choose the day that works best for them. The workshop provides information about UNO and teaching targeted to both new and experienced part-time faculty.

SIS/E-BRUNO Scheduled Downtime Tomorrow
The SIS system and E-BRUNO will be unavailable beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, for the conversion of student account information to mavlink. The system is scheduled to be back online mid-morning on Thursday, July 1. Student account balances will be made available in mavlink by Friday, July 2.
Balances from summer term and prior will be transferred at that time and will be updated daily. Students can continue to view the account detail via E-BRUNO; however, they must make their payments through mavlink. Payments will be transferred daily to E-BRUNO.

- Jeanne Scarpello, UNO head softball coach, was recently voted 2010 MIAA Coach of the Year. Scarpello, will share the honor with Kristi Bredbenner, head coach of Emporia State, after posting 40-plus win seasons and sharing the regular season conference championship with identical 18-2 league records. It is the first for Scarpello, and third coach of the year honor for Bredbenner. Read more.
