MAVelous! Scavenger Hunt

More than 150 individuals participated in UNO's first-ever You Look MAVelous! traveling food scavenger hunt. Faculty, staff and students collected healthy food items at different stations on campus for the 'walking lunch.' The July 9th scavenger hunt was sponsored by the Wellness Stampede, Human Resources and Student Health Services. You Look MAVelous!, UNO's fitness and summer weight loss challenge, continues through Wednesday, Aug. 19.
North Omaha Is Setting for New Film on Race Directed by UNO Faculty Member
"Wigger," a new urban drama about a young white man who immerses himself in African-American life and culture is being filmed in North Omaha through early August. Anna Maria Horsford, who plays Ruth Taylor in the film, is in Omaha for much of the filming.
"Wigger" was written by Omowale Akintunde, chair of the UNO Department of Black Studies. Dr. Akintunde also serves as the film’s director. Read more.
Faculty/Staff Picnic Set for Aug. 19
Food, fun and free prizes will take center stage on campus Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the 2009 UNO Faculty/Staff Picnic. The event - sponsored by Chancellor John Christensen, the Staff Advisory Council and Faculty Senate - will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Nebraska Room. This year's theme is "Happy Birthday, UNO."
R.S.V.P. registration forms must be submitted to Kim Kronschnabel in 109 Eppley Administration Building by Wednesday, Aug. 12, to be eligible for the prize drawings. "Happy Birthday, Maverick Village" Set for July 29
Maverick Village is turning a year older. In celebration of the occasion, Maverick Village staffers invite the campus community to attend a Wednesday, July 29, event titled "Happy Birthday, Maverick Village!" Festivities will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Maverick Village Clubhouse.
Faculty and staff can enjoy cake and punch, and tour the model room.

University Drive East Parking Structure Maintenance Begins Today
Cleaning and sealing work begins today, July 27, on the middle level of the University Drive East Parking Structure.
The level will remain closed for one week to allow for weather delays and assure adequate drying time for the sealer. During this project, the lower level will not be affected and remain open.

UNO and WELCOM to Host Reality Wellness Experts Campus Visit July 30
This event has been designated a UNO Wellness Stampede event.
Marty and Amy Wolff, contestants from NBC's reality show "The Biggest Loser," lost a combined weight of 252 pounds in September 2006. The couple, now married and Omaha residents, will bring their reality wellness mantra to the UNO campus Thursday, July 30, for a day of wellness events.
Sponsored by UNO's You Look Marvelous! Campaign and the Wellness Council of the Midlands (WELCOM), "How to Make Reality Wellness Happen at Work and Home" will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service Building Collaborating Commons. Read more.

July Biweekly Payroll Notice
July has three biweekly paydays (July 2, 16 and 30), therefore no standard deductions will be taken from the upcoming Thursday, July 30, biweekly payroll. Regular biweekly paid employees will not have NUCREDITS included or standard deductions (insurance, parking, etc.) withheld. Federal and state taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes, retirement and credit union deductions will be taken.
