MAVelous! Scavenger Hunt

More than 150 individuals participated in UNO's first-ever You Look MAVelous! traveling food scavenger hunt. Faculty, staff and students collected healthy food items at different stations on campus for the 'walking lunch.' The July 9th scavenger hunt was sponsored by the Wellness Stampede, Human Resources and Student Health Services. You Look MAVelous!, UNO's fitness and summer weight loss challenge, continues through Wednesday, Aug. 19.

For the past decade, Tim Fitzgerald, manager of photography, has captured the essence of UNO in photographs. Be it an awards luncheon, athletic event or groundbreaking ceremony, he has been there for it all. Visit this link for details.
The UNO flags will be lowered to half-staff today, July 23, to honor UNO retiree Ernest "Ernie" Peck. He passed away June 17 at the age of 67.
Peck, vice chancellor and dean of Graduate Studies and Research, retired in 1998. At the time of his passing, he resided in Georgetown, Texas.
Criss Library Offers New Texting Service
Don't have time to stop by Criss Library to get a quick question answered? If not, text a librarian at 309-222-7740 – just enter Criss Library code "UNO" at the beginning of the message and then text a question.
A librarian will get back to patrons with an answer within 10 minutes. Librarians are on staff Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to answer questions.
The Criss Library is part of the collaborative reference service known as InfoQuest.

"Happy Birthday, Maverick Village" Set for July 29
Maverick Village is turning a year older. In celebration of the occasion, Maverick Village staffers invite the campus community to a Wednesday, July 29, event titled "Happy Birthday, Maverick Village!" Festivities will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Maverick Village Clubhouse.
Faculty and staff can enjoy cake and punch, as well as tours of the model room.

Gallery Welcomes Exhibition Curated by UNO Faculty, Features Work by UNO Students, Graduates
Works by artists from across the country -- as well as recent UNO BFA graduates and current UNO students -- will be on display July 30 through Aug. 2 at the Bancroft Street Market, 2702 S. 10th St., in Omaha.

Faculty Commencement Regalia Orders Due Friday
Faculty members planning to order academic regalia from the UNO Bookstore for the August commencement should do so by calling 554.2336 before Friday, July 24.
Commencement for August graduates will take place Friday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Ave. Faculty are asked to assemble no later than 1:30 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.
Federal Minimum Wage Rate Increase Reminder
Human Resources staff announces effective Friday, July 24, the Federal Minimum Wage will increase to $7.25 per hour. Departments do not need a PAF to initiate this increase, Human Resources will automatically make the necessary changes on all affected active employees on that date.

New UNO Employee Discount Program Available
UNO is partnering with PerkSpot to offer a new Employee Discount Program for all UNO faculty, staff, retirees and students.
PerkSpot is an innovative online resource that offers discounts and rebates on goods and services from some of the top brand names in the U.S. UNO has become first campus in the University of Nebraska system to use the PerkSpot service.
"We have partnered with PerkSpot to help save you and your family money with discounts on a wide range of products and services from some of the best nationally known companies," said Mollie Anderson, director of Human Resources. "You will find valuable offers from your favorite merchants through PerkSpot including: Target, Barnes & Noble, AMC Theatres, Sprint, Dell and many other merchants."
For easy reference, a Web site with a listing of participating local stores and online vendors, is available for faculty, staff, retirees and students to view. To take advantage of the UNO Employee Discount Program, eligible participants need to first register for an account with PerkSpot.
- Visit http://uno.perkspot.com/;
- At the right of the screen, click the "Sign up" button;
- Type the required information at sign up screen;
- Enter "group code" -- UNO;
- Register a work or personal e-mail address;
- Add first and last name;
- Type a work and personal zip code;
- Create a password; and
- A confirmation e-mail containing "how to login" instructions will be sent. Individuals must respond to this e-mail to be signed up for the service.
PerkSpot staff will add new deals and offers daily.
"An easy way to find out what offers are new is to watch for the Widgets on the site," Anderson said. "You can also sign up to get e-mail alerts sent directly to your in box."
PerkSpot will host the clearing-house of offers for UNO participants. Individuals can recommend other merchants be added to UNO's listing. To do so or for site questions, contact PerkSpot customer service at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Writing Center and Math-Science Learning Center Offers Summer Consultation Services
For the first summer ever, the UNO Writing Center is offering summer consultation services. Writing Center consultants are available at its library satellite on the main level of Criss Library to serve UNO's summer students.
Students needing help with writing assignments can stop by the library to talk with the center's experienced writing consultants. This is a walk-in service; no appointment is necessary.

Welcome Back with Welcome Week
Welcome Week at UNO will kick off the fall semester. A variety of events are planned Monday, Aug. 24, through Thursday, Aug. 27, to welcome new and returning students. This year's theme is "100 years of serving students!"
Activities take place each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Milo Bail Student Center Plaza and will include live music, free food and games. Free food for students, faculty and staff starts each day at 11:30 a.m.
