Wellness Stampede

Team Captains Sought for "You Look MAVelous! Challenge"

This event has been designated a UNO Wellness Stampede event.

The Wellness Stampede and Human Resources have teamed up to host "You Look MAVelous! Challenge" this summer on campus. Team captains are currently being sought for the competition.

"This weight loss challenge is designed to be a fun and informative event addressing the importance of good health and wellness," said Dave Daniels, assistant director for fitness/wellness and instructional programs. "We need team captains, individuals who can help recruit participants and provide support for their teammates during the competition."

A team captain meeting is set for this Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m. in 205 EAB. Those who can not attend, but would like to be a captain should contact Daniels at 554.2008.

All weigh-ins will be done as teams. A special platform and scale has been constructed for the weigh-ins. Watch eNotes for details as the challenge nears.

The mission of the Wellness Stampede, UNO's health promotion program, is to create a culture of health and wellness among all faculty, staff and students. MBSC Summer Hours Begin

Summer hours at the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) officially begin today, May 11.

Summer hours are:

- Monday through Friday
7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

- Saturday
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Sunday
Noon to 5 p.m.

Portion of Lot Q Closed Today, Tomorrow

The east side of Lot Q will be closed today, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12, for maintenance and striping. Weather permitting.

Summer Shuttle Schedule Under Way

Starting today, May 11, the summer shuttle service will operate Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays. The shuttle will service the Dodge Location and Pacific Location only. There will be no shuttle service to the Crossroads Mall during the summer months.

ITS to Hold May Blackboard Training This Week

Information Technology Services (ITS) staff have announced a series of myBlackboard training sessions this week. All UNO faculty and staff are welcome, and all sessions will take place in 104 Durham Science Center.

The training schedule:

- Tuesday, May 12
9 to 11:30 a.m.

- Wednesday, May 13

9 to 11:30 a.m.

Handouts for these sessions can be found on the "Instructor Help" tab at It is recommended that participants read the handouts prior to attending class.

To register for one of these Blackboard sessions (from on campus):

- Select May, and click "Go";

- Click on the "Register" link next to the course.

- Enter a SAP Personnel number. (This is the five-digit number on employee picture IDs. It is also on all paycheck stubs.)

- Click "Sign Up," and click "OK" to confirm the personnel number. An e-mail will be sent to confirm this registration.

A minimum of five people must be signed up by 2 p.m. the day prior to the class. An e-mail notification will be sent if a class is cancelled.

Durango Days 2009 Set for August

Planning for Durango Days 2009 has begun. The two-day event, set for Thursday and Friday, Aug. 20-21, helps new students become acquainted with campus. Participants meet new classmates and will also conduct a service- learning project in Omaha.

ITS to Offer Adobe Connect Sessions This Week

Information Technology Services will offer two Adobe Connect classes this week on campus.

Adobe Connect is a web collaboration tool that UNO faculty and staff can use to conduct online classes, office hours, advising sessions, student presentations, and group work. It allows audio and/or video communication, multimedia and application sharing, whiteboard display, breakout sessions and polling.

Adobe ConnectNow is a free web collaboration tool that allows up to three people to meet and work together online to share and explore concepts, exchange documents and complete projects during the session. Participants can use screen sharing, chat, notes, audio and video.

This hands-on session is for instructors or staff interested in learning to use ConnectNow. Topics covered include:
- Registering and logging onto ConnectNow;
- Using the resources built-into ConnectNow: chat, notes, file exchange, audio and/or video and screen sharing;
- Basic audio and video setup;
- Uploading files;
- Inviting participants to a meeting; and
- Screen sharing.

Adobe Connect Pro

The Adobe Connect Pro class extends the capabilities of ConnectNow, adding recording for 24/7 playback, polling, content upload and retention, desktop sharing and breakout sessions. Up to 100 participants can attend and collaborate in any Connect Pro meeting.

This hands-on session is for instructors or staff interested in learning to use Adobe Connect. Topics covered include:
- Logging onto the system and creating a meeting or class;
- Organizing, using "Connect" resources: chat, whiteboards, breakout sessions, and application sharing;
- Basic audio and video use in "Connect" session;
- Uploading content;
- Creating polls;
- Opening a class or meeting for participants to attend and collaborate with one another; and
- Recording classes or meetings for 24/7 access.

NU Regent to Address Faculty Senate at May 13 Meeting

The UNO Faculty Senate will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 13, in the Milo Bail Student Center Chancellor's Room. At 2 p.m., University of Nebraska Regent Robert Whitehouse will speak to the Senate. The meeting will begin immediately after the presentation. All interested may attend.

Members Sought for UNO Faculty/Staff Golf League

The UNO Faculty/Staff Golf League is currently seeking faculty and staff to become regular members or substitutes for the upcoming season at Elmwood Golf Course.

HPER Fitness Corner and Upstairs Weight Room Relocated

Campus Recreation staff want to remind faculty, staff, students and alums of two moves at the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building (HPER).

As of last weekend, 107 HPER (the Fitness Corner) and 105 HPER (the upstairs weight room) equipment are located in 110 HPER (the rock wall gym) or the downstairs weight room.

The former locations, 105 and 107 HPER, are now closed. The equipment in 110 HPER and the downstairs weight room will remain available until the new south fitness center is completed in August.

"Thanks for your understanding and patience during this renovation/expansion of our fitness spaces," said Dave Daniels, assistant director for fitness/wellness and instructional programs.

Faculty Library Carrels Now Taking Applications

Criss Library renovations have included the creation of 15 updated faculty study carrels. Each mini-office provides a bookshelf, storage, ergonomic chair, power, data port and energy efficient lighting.

Carrel applications for the fall semester will be taken through Saturday, May 30. Completed forms can be returned via campus mail or in person to the library. Carrels will be assigned and ready for faculty use beginning in August.

Sheila King Open House Reception Set for May 28

The UNO Alumni Association invites the campus community to attend a Retirement Open House Reception for Sheila King on Thursday, May 28. It will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the William H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center. King is director of alumni programming and activities.
