OLLAS Charla Series Kicks Off Sept. 30 with Multi-media Presentation
The Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) at UNO will kick off its 2008-09 Charla Series Tuesday, Sept. 30, with a multi-media presentation by students and faculty who traveled abroad last summer to learn about the impact of globalization in Latin American cities. "Charla" is the Spanish term for conversation or chat.
The charla - titled "Urban Challenges, Globalization, and Navigating a New Culture: Lessons from a Service Learning Class in Lima, Peru" - is part of the Latino Heritage Month celebration and will take place at noon at the William H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center, 67th and Dodge St.
The event is free and open to the UNO and Omaha communities. Refreshments will be served.

Centennial Opening Weekend Volunteers Sought
UNO will kick off its 100th anniversary with many activities Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 8-12, Centennial Kickoff Week.

Exercise Physiology Lab to Offer Cholesterol Screening
The Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Exercise Physiology Lab will offer a cholesterol screening Monday, Sept. 29, for UNO faculty, staff and students.
The screening will take place in the Exercise Physiology Lab,103 HPER Building, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The cost is $20.

Chair Massage Service Available in HPER
The Wellness Stampede will offer chair massages on the following Fridays this fall in 213 Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building - Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 21 and Dec. 12. Kimberly Jackson, LMT from Santosha, will give the massages.
The cost for a 15-minute massage is $10. To sign up, visit 100 HPER Building. Walk-ins will be accepted if there are openings.

Swing, Ballroom and Latin Dance Lessons Offered this Fall
Want to learn how to "Dance Like the Stars?" Campus Recreation and the Mav-Rec Wellness Stampede have teamed up to host Swing, Ballroom and Latin dance sessions this fall. All classes take place in 200 Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building.
Dates: Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 and 12 (Sundays)
Times: Ballroom and Latin - 3 to 4 p.m.; Swing - 4 to 5 p.m.
Cost: Activity cardholders - $15 and $13 for a friend; non-activity cardholders - $18 and $15 for a friend. Those wishing to take multiple classes should add $5 per person per additional class.

The 2008 Today's Office Professional Conference is set for Friday, Oct. 17, at the Educational Service Unit #3 Conference Center, 6949 South 110th St.
The event, presented by the Nebraska Business Development Center, runs from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The conference is designed for administrative assistants, secretaries, support staff and office managers. The $149 enrollment fee includes a continental breakfast, a gourmet lunch, training materials and parking.

Guest Artist Recital Featuring Beard, Hatch-Tomkiewicz Sept. 29
Christine Beard, associate professor of flute at UNO, will present a guest artist recital Monday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Westbrook Recital Hall.
The program will feature several works for piccolo that will appear on Dr. Beard's upcoming debut CD. The event will conclude with a flute and oboe duo featuring Susan Hatch-Tomkiewicz, instructor of oboe at UNO. The recital is free and open to the public.

GSO to Present Safer Sex Cabaret Today
The campus community and public can join UNO's Gender and Sexual Orientation (GSO) student agency as they present the Safer Sex Cabaret today, Sept. 18, in the Milo Bail Student Center Nebraska Room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is an educational program on safer sex practices and alternatives.
The objective of Safer Sex Cabaret is to promote individual exploration and empowerment concerning a person's sense of desire, limits and options with respect to intimate relationships with themselves and others.
Co-sponsors include UNO Student Health Services, the UNO Women's Resource Center, UNO Counseling Services, YWCA, Planned Parenthood and the Nebraska AIDS Project.
