SAC to Host Open HR Forum for Carole West Today
The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) will hold a forum for Carole West, the second finalist for the UNO Human Resources director position today, July 7. West currently serves as the regional human resource manager at Wal-Mart Logistics.
Today's open forum starts at 2 p.m. in the Welcome Center, 111 Eppley Administration Building and will last an hour. All members of the university community – faculty, staff and students – and the public are encouraged to attend. In addition to the open forums, the finalists will tour campus and meet with UNO officials. Two more finalists will visit campus this week.

Summer Group Ex Session 2 Begins
Campus Recreation and the Wellness Stampede have teamed up to host a variety of Group Ex classes this summer at UNO. Session 2 runs through Friday, Aug. 8.
All classes will be held in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building. Group Ex classes are free to all current students and Campus Recreation cardholders. Summer activity cards are available for $30.

July FEAP Hours Announced
The Faculty/Staff Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) provides short-term counseling, assessment and referral services for faculty, staff, their spouses or significant others, and family members. FEAP offices are located in 206 Eppley Administration Building.

Retirement Reception July 9 for Connie Guthrie
Connie Guthrie, business manager for the College of Information Science & Technology (IS&T), will retire this month after 13 years at UNO. The college will hold a retirement reception Wednesday, July 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. in The University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute atrium.
All of Guthrie's years of service have been in the College of IS&T, except for her first year when she worked as a secretary in computer science. At that time, computer science was a part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Guthrie has held her present position since the establishment of IS&T. She and her husband plan to move to Missouri.

SHS Avian Flu Presentation Planned for July 15

Annual Fall New Faculty/Graduate Assistant Workshops Set for Aug. 18-19
The 2008 new faculty workshop and graduate assistant workshops, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), will take place Monday, Aug. 18. The faculty workshop continues Tuesday, Aug. 19.
"These workshops have been a tradition at UNO for more than 30 years," said Deborah Smith-Howell, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and dean for Graduate Studies. "It provides new faculty and new teaching assistants with an opportunity to meet one another in an informal setting while learning about UNO—our metropolitan mission and strategic goals, our students, our academic support services, and faculty development opportunities."
