SAC to Host Open Forums for HR Finalists

The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) will hold open forums for the finalists for the UNO Human Resources director position starting Tuesday, July 1.  All members of the university community – faculty, staff and students – and the public are encouraged to attend.

The four finalists are--Jim Friel, assistant vice president for Human resources at ACT, Inc.; Barbara Jeffrey, professor of human resources at Bellevue University and Nebraska Wesleyan University; Vicky Timmerman, vice president of Human Resources at Corporate Express Document & Print Management; and Carole West, regional human resource manager at Wal-Mart Logisitics.  In addition to the open forums, all four will tour campus and meet with UNO officials.

The dates, times and locations of the forums:

- Friel will have his open forum on Tuesday, July 1, at 2 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Council Room;

- West will have her open forum on Monday, July 7, at 2 p.m., in the Welcome Center, 111 Eppley Administration Building (EAB);

- Timmerman will have her open forum on Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. in the MBSC Council Room.

- Jeffrey will have her open forum on Thursday, July 10, at 2:45 p.m. in the Welcome Center, 111 EAB.

UNO Printing Services to Close for Inventory

The UNO Printing Services will close Monday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for its annual inventory. It will reopen Tuesday, July 1, and will resume regular summer hours:

- Monday through Friday

8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ASH Central Elevator Undergoes Repairs

Repairs to the central elevator in Arts and Sciences Hall continue through Friday, Aug. 15. It will remain out of service during this time. The southwest elevator will continue to provide service between floors one and three. There will be no elevator service to the fourth floor during this period.

Facilities Management and Planning staff apologize for any inconvenience. The work is necessary to bring the elevator up to code.

Summer Motorcycle Parking Notice

Additional seasonal motorcycle parking is available for faculty, staff and students through Friday, Aug. 22. Motorcycles may park at the following locations on the Dodge, Pacific and Center Street campuses:

- Parking structure (stop by Campus Security, 100 Eppley Administration Building, for details);

- Northwest corner of Lot A (north of Kayser Hall);

- Northwest corner of Lot M (south of Criss Library);

- Southwest corner of Lot 2 (north of The University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute); and

- West of the dome in Lot 20 (Center Street Location).

Participants Sought for UNMC Depression Study

The University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Psychiatry is seeking individuals ages 19 to 65, who are experiencing depression, to participate in a 10-week research study of an investigational medication for depression. All study procedures and medications are provided.

Falconer Al-Hindi Receives Award for Excellence in Women's Studies
Karen Falconer Al-Hindi is the third recipient of the Mary Ann Lamanna Award for Excellence in Women's Studies at UNO.

Dr. Falconer Al-Hindi is an associate professor of women's and gender studies and geography. She has held a professorial appointment at UNO since 1993. In 2000, she became interim director of women's studies and in 2001, after a national search, was selected as director of women's studies. The award recognizes outstanding teaching, research, service, or a combination of the three, to women's studies at UNO. Read more.
