Carillon Concert Set for July 4
The bells on the UNO campus will ring in honor of America Friday, July 4, in conjunction with a carillon concert set for 9 a.m.
UNO carilloneur James Johnson will perform a 30-minute concert of patriotic melodies. The event is free and open to the public. Read more.
Supplies Still Sought for Disaster Victims
The Salvation Army and Star 104.5 FM need assistance from UNO faculty, staff and students to help fill a 53-foot truck, donated by Werner Enterprises, with cleaning supplies for disaster victims. Hopes are to have the truck filled by Tuesday, June 24.
"We've all seen how devastating the floods have been and now we need to get together and offer them the supplies they need," said J. Pat, program director at Star 104.5 FM.
Supplies can be dropped of at The Salvation Army Offices, 3612 Cuming St.
- Disinfectant cleaner;
- Work gloves (rubber and cloth);
- Hand sanitizer;
- Hand wipes;
- Personal hygiene items;
- Protective eye wear;
- Paper products;
- Bug spray; and
"If they do not want to go buy these items we are still accepting money so we can go purchase them at a deep discount," said Michelle Shearer, Salvation Army volunteer and special events coordinator. "Areas we are still helping today are: in Nebraska -- Kearney; in Iowa -- Des Moines, Mason City, Burlington, Iowa City, Muscatiene and Cedar Rapids."

Summer Faculty Recruitment Workshop June 24
The Office of Academic and Student Affairs and the Human Resources - Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity will host a Summer Faculty Recruitment Workshop on Tuesday, June 24.
The workshop is designed for departments or schools anticipating a faculty search within two years. Participants might include deans, directors, chairs, faculty and administrative assistants. The workshop assists departments/schools in search processes that reflect UNO's commitment to faculty, staff and student diversity.
Next Tuesday's workshop will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Chancellor's Room.
The workshop will provide information on recruitment strategies, the UNO People Admin System and EEO guidelines and requirements. Prior to all faculty searches, faculty involved in the search must attend one of these workshops. Faculty participating in searches must also attend a workshop once every two years.

Bank of the West Concert June 27; Free Parking at UNO
The annual "Bank of the West Celebrates America" concert is set for Friday, June 27, at Memorial Park from 6 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and UNO will again provide free parking.
This year's entertainment includes Kool & The Gang, 38 Special and Night Wing, an ensemble from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band. A fireworks finale will follow the performances at 10 p.m. Also at the event, The Omaha Food Bank will accept donations of non-perishable food items. Specially designed Bank of the West Celebrates America plush bears will be available for $5 each, with all proceeds going to The Food Bank.
In addition to surface parking lots, UNO's multi-level parking garage will be open after 4 p.m. Event organizers encourage those who park on campus to use the pedestrian overpass when crossing Dodge Street.
Shuttle service between the UNO Dodge and Pacific locations stops at 6 p.m. during the summer. People who park at the Pacific location for the concert will not be able to take the shuttle back to their cars after 6 p.m.

Annual Fall New Faculty/ Graduate Assistant Workshops Set for Aug. 18-19
The 2008 new faculty workshop and the graduate assistant workshops, sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), will take place Monday, Aug. 18. The faculty workshop will continue Tuesday, Aug. 19.
"These workshops have been a tradition at UNO for more than 30 years," said Deborah Smith-Howell, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and dean for Graduate Studies. "It provides new faculty and new teaching assistants with an opportunity to meet one another in an informal setting while learning about UNO—our metropolitan mission and strategic goals, our students, our academic support services, and faculty development opportunities."
Durango Days 2008 Set for August
Planning for Durango Days 2008 has begun. The two-day event, set for Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21-22, helps new students become acquainted with campus. Participants meet new classmates and will also conduct a service- learning project in Omaha.
