Henningson Memorial Campanile Concert

UNO carilloneur James Johnson performed a concert April 30 in honor of the late Margre Henningson Durham on the mechanical keyboard at the top of the Henningson Memorial Campanile.

Classroom Space at Criss Library Limited During May and June

As the Criss Library prepares to enter the second phase of renovation, classroom 207 will close on Wednesday, May 21. Classroom 204 will remain open until the newly renovated classrooms on the first floor open in early July.

The library staff will continue to accept library instruction requests and encourage summer session faculty to submit their requests as soon as possible. Library instruction for classes will take precedence over other use during this time. In the event that classroom is scheduled during a requested time, librarians will also be available to visit classrooms or schedule other lab space.

Submit Ideas About UNO's History

Does your college or department have a story to tell? Have it heard by thousands of radio listeners during the 2008-09 academic year. To celebrate UNO's upcoming 100th anniversary, Classical 90.7 KVNO will feature 60-second stories called "Centennial Moments" starting this fall.

The segments will air daily on KVNO and highlight the varied histories of Omaha's metropolitan university. "Moments" will be broadcast through the end of centennial celebrations in September 2009.

May FEAP Hours Announced

The Faculty/Staff Employee Assistance Program (FEAP) provides short-term counseling, assessment and referral services for faculty, staff, their spouses or significant others, and family members. FEAP offices are located in 206 Eppley Administration Building.

The May schedule:

- May 15, 20 and 30
8 a.m. to noon

- May 8 and 28
12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Appointments are free and available by calling 554.3120 (UNO) or 559.5175 (UNMC).

Bookstore Customer Appreciation Sale Under Way

The UNO Bookstore will host a customer appreciation sale through Friday, May 9. Customers who buy one UNO or Maverick apparel item at full price will receive a second item for half price. The second item must be of equal or lesser value.

Bookstore hours during the sale are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Keyboard Concerts May 11-13 at Strauss

The 14th annual Robert M. Spire Celebration of Keyboard Arts will take place on Sunday, May 11, Monday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 13, at the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

The performances consist of three concerts at 7:30 p.m. each night. Read more.

HPER Biomechanics Club to Host Talk on Mother-infant Vocal Interaction

Nicholas Smith, from Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH), will speak on campus Friday, May 16. His presentation is titled "The development of mother-infant vocal interaction" and will begin at 1 p.m. in 206 Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). The HPER Biomechanics Journal Club has coordinated this event, which is free and open to the university community.

Dr. Smith, serves as staff scientist and as the coordinator in the Perceptual Development Laboratory at BTNRH. His research focuses on behavioral methods to study the development of infants' perceptual and cognitive processing of sounds, such as speech, music and complex tone patterns. Dr. Smith obtained his doctorate in psychology from the University of Toronto in Canada in 2004. Previous to his appointment at BTNRH in 2007, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience and Behavior.

Summer Shuttle Schedule Begins May 12

Starting Monday, May 12, the summer shuttle service will operate Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays. The shuttle will service the Dodge Location and Pacific Location only campuses. There will be no shuttle service to the Crossroads Mall during summer.
