Henningson Memorial Campanile Concert

UNO carilloneur James Johnson performed a concert April 30 in honor of the late Margre Henningson Durham on the mechanical keyboard at the top of the Henningson Memorial Campanile.

Spring Commencement May 9 at Civic; Shuttle Available

More than 1,200 students will graduate Friday, May 9, during the UNO spring commencement ceremony. The event begins at 2 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, 1804 Capitol Ave.

Faculty members who plan to attend commencement should assemble no later than 1:30 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium Exhibition Hall.

A shuttle bus for faculty/staff and individuals participating in the platform party will depart from UNO in front of the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) at 1 p.m. Following the ceremony, the shuttle will provide transportation back to the MBSC. Read more.

Retirement Reception Today for Kris Bell

After 23 years of service, Kris Bell, assistant to the vice chancellor for UNO Academic and Student Affairs, will retire next month. She and her husband are moving to Phoenix, Ariz.

A retirement reception for Bell will take place today, May 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom.

"Consider This" to Highlight UNO Fulbright Award Recipient

Coming up on the next edition of "Consider This," the story of L. LaReesa Wolfenbarger, an associate professor of biology, whose pursuit of excellence in research has earned her and her family a trip to the University of Oslo in Norway.

Host Cathy Wyatt will interview Dr. Wolfenbarger, a Fulbright Scholar recipient, about her hopes, dreams and the secret to her success. Guests will also include, John McCarty, her husband who is also a UNO professor, and Zach McCarty, her son. The program will air Tuesday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. on NET2.

Keyboard Concerts May 11-13 at Strauss

The 14th annual Robert M. Spire Celebration of Keyboard Arts will take place on Sunday, May 11, Monday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 13, at the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

The performances consist of three concerts at 7:30 p.m. each night. Read more.

TIAA-CREF representative will visit campus for individual appointments with employees on the following dates:
- May 13, 20, 27 and 28
- June 3, 13, 20 and 27

Bookstore Customer Appreciation Sale Begins May 5

The UNO Bookstore will host a customer appreciation sale Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 9. Customers who buy one UNO or Maverick apparel item at full price will receive a second item for half price. The second item must be of equal or lesser value.

Bookstore hours during the sale are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m

Summer and Fall Book Orders Due to Bookstore

The UNO Bookstore staff would like to remind faculty to turn in summer and fall book orders as soon as possible.

"By turning in book orders early, the Bookstore is able to save students money by buying back books and searching for used textbooks," said Scott Dickey, manager of course materials.

The "book buy back" event in the UNO Bookstore continues through Friday, May 9. Individuals must have a current picture ID to participate.

7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Friday
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UCAT Offers Registration Fee to June CASTL Conference

The University Committee for the Advancement of Teaching (UCAT) invites faculty applications to attend a national-level conference on the scholarship of teaching and learning to be held in Omaha, June 4-7.

E-mail applications directed to Alice Woll addressing the main points of the 2007-08 Designated Conference Application form available at http://www.unomaha.edu/ucat/grants.php will be quickly reviewed for funding of the $350 conference registration fee.

Creighton University will host the 2008 National Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) Institute: Developing Scholars of Teaching and Learning. Richard Gale, CASTL consulting scholar, has described the institute as "the vanguard campus training program for faculty committed to the scholarly investigation of student learning."

The 2008 Institute theme, "Professional Dispositions and Values," encourages exploration of the attributes, values and habits of mind that allow reflective inquiry.
