Basketball vs. Metro State

All 12 University of Nebraska-Omaha players scored to give the Mavericks a 69-56 victory over Metro State in the final game of the Downtown DoubleTree Classic Saturday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.

HR Seminar Series to Highlight Personal Finances

A representative from Credit Advisors Foundation will answer questions on personal financial management and credit basics at two installments of the UNO Human Resources Informative Seminar Series next week.

The first presentation will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Gallery Room on Thursday, Dec. 13. The session will be repeated Friday, Dec. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m. All interested faculty and staff are invited to attend.

"Join us for an informative discussion about managing your household finances and learn some practical tips that you can put into practice," said Esther Scarpello, fringe benefits manager at UNO.

The UNO seminars are scheduled monthly from September through April. Topics will include personal financial management, social security and retirement planning.

COS Demonstration Planned for Grant-Writers

The next Sponsored Programs and Research (SPR) Community of Science (COS) open lab demonstration will take place today, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. in Room 207 of the Criss Library.

SPR hosts these monthly hour-long sessions to demonstrate the various COS on-line resources available to faculty, professional staff and graduate students who are planning to write grant proposals during this academic year.  Reservations are not required.

Safety Reminder for Holiday Decorations

In an effort to help minimize health and fire and life safety issues related to holiday decorating, UNO Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) staff reminds departments to abide by these procedures:

- Materials used for decorations should be artificial and fire retardant;

- Open flames (candles, incense, etc.) are not permitted without permission from EHS;

- Avoid covering exit signs, fire extinguishers or fire pull stations with decorations;

- Hanging materials from fire detection or sprinkler systems is prohibited;

- Use heavy extension cords and don't cover them; and

- Departments are expected to turn off all decorative lights when leaving for the day.

Inclement Weather Announcement Reminder

When inclement weather arises locally, the university community has several options in getting the information about snow delay or closing.

Access the UNO Weather Announcements Web site at for the latest university closing information. Web site visitors need to hit the reload or refresh button on the Web browser first.

e2campus subscribers will also receive alerts announcing delays or closings. The new system, provided by e2Campus, sends instant alerts directly to registered subscribers' e-mail accounts and mobile phones via SMS text messages. Wireless personal digital assistants and BlackBerry devices can also be used. Students, faculty and staff can learn more about the system and sign up at

The university community also can dial 554.CALL (554.2255) for the latest weather announcements. KVNO Radio (90.7 FM) will broadcast UNO closing information, as well.

HPER Pool Notice

The Health, Physical Education and Recreation Pool will be closed Saturday, Dec 8, for a UNO swim meet. Normal hours will resume on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Counseling Center Seminars Offered

The UNO Counseling Center will conduct two luncheon seminars this month. 

On Thursday, Dec. 6, the center will address Test Anxiety Management from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) U Mon Hon Room. Finals Week Preparation will be the topic on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in MBSC Dodge Room A.

Holiday Card Program to Benefit Scholarship Funds

Today, Dec. 5, is the last day to donate to the Faculty Senate and Staff Advisory Council (SAC) annual Holiday Card Program.

All interested faculty and staff are encouraged to donate the money they would normally spend on greeting cards for colleagues to one of two scholarship funds at UNO – the William Gerbracht Memorial Scholarship Fund (recipients are children of faculty and staff) or the General Scholarship Fund. Additional donations are also welcome. In return, a seasonal greeting that acknowledges contributors will be distributed to all UNO departments on Monday, Dec. 10.

Those who wish to donate should send a check (payable to UNO) to Cashiering/Student Accounts, EAB 109, today, Dec. 5. Donors should designate one of the two scholarship funds listed above and indicate the name or names they would like to appear on the seasonal greetings card.

Participants Sought for Young Adult ADHD Clinical Trial

Young adults, age 19 to 30 years, with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are sought for a clinical trial conducted by the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. Study medication and study procedures will be provided at no cost to eligible participants.
