The Morton Meadows Neighborhood Energy Saving Program was a pilot program from March 2007 to May 2009. It is no longer an active program, but there are many resources available on this website for those who wish to save energy in their neighborhoods. Please feel free to download and use the two reports and energy action plan for your neighborhood or research, browse the archived meeting agendas and minutes, and follow the links for some energy saving tips.

 

Remember, if you live in Omaha Public Power District's service territory, your Neighborhood or Community can still participate in an on-going program:

Complete all the steps of the Energy Efficient Neighborhood/Community Designation to start saving money and energy in your community and to receive the Energy Efficient Neighborhood/Community Designation from Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and the Neighborhood Center.

Morton Meadows energy use by the numbers:

  1. In 2007, Morton Meadows Neighborhood spent $2.24 million on home energy (electricity & natural gas).
  2. In 2007, the average home in Morton Meadows spent $1,640 on home energy.
  3. With 25% energy reduction, Morton Meadows Neighborhood would save $560,000 each year.
  4. The average homeowner in Morton Meadows would save $410 each year.

The Reports:

1. The Morton Meadows Neighborhood Energy Savings Program: Report Part 2 summarizes the changes the neighborhood and 100 participating Homes made to save energy and looks at how and why residents of Morton Meadows made both behavior and technology energy saving changes in their lives and homes.

2. The Morton Meadows Neighborhood Energy Savings Program: Report Part 1 summarizes the energy efficiency of the residential buildings and the attitudes and behaviors of the residents of Morton Meadows.

 

The Plan:

The Morton Meadows Energy Action Plan lists the strategies for reducing energy use by 25% neighborhood-wide. It also highlights the community-based planning process used to develop these strategies. This plan complements the Morton Meadows Neighborhood Energy Savings Program: Phase I Report.
