EC UNO Attends Rocky Mountain Sustainability Summit in Boulder, CO
On February 23 and 24, 2007, four members of EC UNO traveled to Boulder, CO to attend the Rocky Mountain Sustainability Summit in Boulder, CO. The focus of the summit was "Forging Solutions at Colleges and Universities." Members attended plenary sessions and listened to university presidents, chancellors, students, and sustainability leaders discuss ways they are institutionalizing sustainability on their campuses. An overriding theme was that as educational institutions, universities have a responsibility to lead their campus and surrounding communities towards sustainable thinking and sustainable practices. Students have been the primary leader in implementing change at the majority of these universities by demanding that their campuses invest in renewable energy, implement recycling and zero-waste policies, and reduce carbon emissions to address global climate change.
