testing center guidelines.
The UNO Testing Center (TC) is available for students who require exam accommodations that may not be obtainable in the classroom. Specific testing accommodations can be arranged after approval by the Coordinator of Disability Services, and in conjunction with the student and instructor. If an exam will be taken through the TC, the following guidelines must be followed.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Make an Appointment with Instructor
Students are required to meet with their instructors either prior to or during the first week of each semester. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the implementation of their approved accommodations in each course.
Students should ask the instructor what the format(s) of the exam will be (multiple choice, essay, etc.) to determine if they are receiving appropriate accommodations. If other accommodations are necessary, the student must arrange them with the Coordinator of Disability Services and the instructor no later than one week prior to the exam.
2. Schedule an Appointment at the Testing Center
The TC will administer exams only when the student has properly scheduled an appointment. The Testing Center will have received a copy of the accommodations needed from the Disability Services Coordinator.
UNO's Testing Center is located in the Eppley Administration Building Room 113. Appointments may be scheduled in person or by calling (402) 554-4800.
Scheduling Guidelines:
- All exams must be scheduled with the TC at least 5 days in advance of the examination date. If a student does not schedule 5 days in advance, he or she may not be able to test as requested.
- Schedule the time(s), date(s) and appropriate allotment of time for each exam with the TC.
- If you receive extra time as an accommodation, you must schedule to allow for that time even if you think you may not use it.
- Students should schedule appointments based on the class syllabus. All exams are to be scheduled as close to the same day and time as the rest of the class is scheduled to take it. If a conflict arises in scheduling a time to take a test, check with the instructor before scheduling the exam to see when he/she will allow the exam to be taken. If a student does not inform the instructor of their appointment time, he or she may not be able to test.
- It is the student’s responsibility to review testing accommodations with the TC when scheduling each exam. (To change an approved accommodation, please make your request to the Coordinator of Disability Services in advance of the exam date. Testing Center staff cannot approve changes in accommodations.)
- Contact the TC one day prior to the exam date to confirm exam date and arrangements.
Testing Guidelines:
- Students must be on time for the exam.
- Students should be ready to take the exam at the scheduled time.
- If a student arrives late, or does not inform the instructor of the appointment time, he or she may not be able to test.
- Be prepared to show photo ID; take no food or drink into the test room unless as an approved accommodation; store personal items in a locker during exams--including purses, wallets, backpacks, and non-religious headwear. The use of communication devices of any nature, including cell phones, pagers, PDAs, etc. is prohibited during testing. This list of items is not exhaustive; please check with the Testing Center in advance if you have questions about whether an item is allowed in the test room.
- Students are not allowed to deliver or return their own exams. The Testing Center does not collect homework, take home tests, or other assignments from students.
3. Remind Instructors of Testing Accommodations
Students are responsible for notifying instructors that they are scheduled to take exams at the TC. It is recommended that you remind instructors one week prior to the exam.
4. If Necessary, Cancel the Appointment with the Testing Center
When canceling an appointment, notify the TC and the instructor immediately. The instructor must give the TC permission for the student to reschedule the exam.
1. Delivery of Exam to the Testing Center
Instructor(s) are responsible for delivery of the examinations to the TC. The exam must be received at the TC twenty-four hours in advance of the test appointment date and time. A Test Cover Sheet detailing exam parameters should be completed by the instructor for every exam. Materials may be delivered in person, e-mailed to testingcenter@enroll.unomaha.edu, sent via campus mail (not recommended), or faxed to (402) 554-3515.
2. Return of Exam to the Instructor
Instructor(s) are responsible for picking up the completed exam. Identification is required from the person who picks up the exam. As an alternative, the Testing Center can send a sealed exam to the instructor via campus mail, but the Center can assume no responsibility for misdelivery or loss of a mailed exam.
3. Students are not allowed to deliver or return their own exams.
1. Enforcement of Exam Rules and Regulations
Test materials will be kept secure. The Testing Center must set and enforce policies and procedures to protect the integrity of exams and to ensure that the administration of exams is fair. The Testing Center may change policies and procedures from time to time.
Test proctors will be available to act on behalf of the instructor and will be in charge of the test session. Standard classroom testing regulations will apply. The proctor will not interpret or answer any questions on or about the exam unless previously approved by the instructor.
2. Interruptions will not be allowed during the exam unless previously approved.
3. Examinees are expected to abide by the University’s policy on Academic Integrity. The TC is required to report any acts of academic dishonesty or unusual behavior to the instructor and the Coordinator of Disability Services. If academic dishonesty is detected during the exam, the exam will be stopped and returned to the instructor immediately.
4. The TC reserves the right to deny testing services for any student who fails to comply with the appropriate scheduling responsibilities or testing regulations on three occasions within one semester.
Comments and/or suggestions on these guidelines are welcome and should be directed to theTesting Center Director at placement@enroll.unomaha.edu or at phone number (402) 554-4800.
