Bachelor of General Studies Area of Concentration

Political Science

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in political science.

Required:

30 hours from the department of political science (PSCI)

  • No less than 9 hours upper division

Optional:

An allied field of 1-9 hours may be taken in ONE of the following departments as part of the 30 hours in the area of concentration:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • History
  • Sociology

Additional information:

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate adviser in the political science department to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in political science studies the origin, development, and operation of political systems and public policy. It exposes students to the issues of political organization, action, policy, and governance. Political science is a versatile major and helps develop skills and understanding useful in a variety of settings. Students with a degree in political science may find careers in government, law enforcement, politics, nonprofit administration, public relations, journalism, broadcasting, business, education, and research. Political science study can prepare students for law school. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue other advanced degrees, if desired.
