Bachelor of General Studies Area of Concentration

Criminal Justice

The Division of Continuing Studies offers the Bachelor of General Studies degree with an area of concentration in criminal justice.

Required:

30 hours from the department of criminal justice

  • No less than 9 hours upper division

Optional:

An allied field of 1–9 hours from ONE of the following departments may be used as part of the 30 hours in the area of concentration:

  • Business
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Public Administration
  • Sociology

Additional information:

Students interested in graduate studies should contact the graduate adviser in the criminal justice department to make sure necessary classes are taken to enter graduate programs.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

No course from a two-year institution which is also offered as an upper division course at UNO can be used in the area of concentration.

Career Information:
An area of concentration in criminal justice focuses on the theories and practices found in crime prevention, law, investigation, policy, and other areas of the criminal justice system. This includes a look at society, government, and corporate responses to crime on the local, national, and international levels. It will also provide the necessary knowledge to pursue an advanced degree, including in areas such as law, political science, and sociology, if desired. Criminal justice students may find careers in corrections, law, politics, education, psychology, social work, criminology, legal research, court administration, investigation, security, law enforcement, immigration, and loss prevention.
