Recently, Community policing has become a dominant theme of police reform. Numerous programs have been implemented across the nation. Our department is actively involved with local and federal agencies in the implementation and evaluation of community policing.
t.e.a.m. nebraska.
T.E.A.M. Nebraska is a metropolitan-wide program designed to educate children on the dangers of drugs, juveniles and the law, peer pressure, leadership and similar topics. One of the objectives of the project is to provide children with the tools to make sound decisions. Since 1998, our department has conducted a three-year evaluation on the effectiveness of the project.
The department continues to work with local police agencies in their implementation of community policing activities.

Since January 2001, Dr. Solomon Zhao has been working in conjunction with the C.O.P.S. Office at the Department of Justice to evaluate the effectiveness of C.O.P.S. grants on crime reduction. From 1994 to 1999, over 6000 cities in the U.S. were included in the analysis. The overall findings suggest that the C.O.P.S. hiring grants and the innovative grants are effective in reducing violence and property crime rates at the local level. Currently, additional data is being included in the analysis
