Specific Minor Requirements

2010-2011 UNO Undergraduate Catalog

ANTHROPOLOGY
ANTH 1050 and at least 12 additional credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level anthropology courses. No more than nine credit hours will be accepted as transfer credit.

ART HISTORY
A minimum of 18 credit hours, including 6 hours from Art History Core and 12 hours from Art History Electives.  In addition, 2 semesters of Foreign Languages and three credit hours of History. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific minor requirements.

AVIATION
Minimum of 18 credit hours, including at least 9 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level courses. A grade of “C” or better is required in all Aviation courses.

BIOLOGY
A minor in biology requires a minimum of 26 semester credit hours. All courses counted toward a minor in biology must be applicable toward a major in biology. These hours must include Biology 1450, 1750 and 2140 or equivalent courses and at least 12 credit hours of courses at the 3000 or 4000 level. At least one of the 3000 or 4000 level courses must have a laboratory. Students must complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better. Students transferring biology credits are required to take a minimum of two 3000 or 4000 level courses at UNO.

BIOTECHNOLOGY
A minor in biotechnology requires a minimum of 26 semester credit hours. These Hours must include Biology 1450, 1750, 2140 and 3020 or equivalent courses and 9 credit hours of additional 3000 or 4000 level courses. At least two of the 3000 or 4000 level courses must have a laboratory. Students must complete all courses with a grade of “C” or better. Students transferring biology credits are required to take a minimum of one 4000 level laboratory courses at UNO.

BLACK STUDIES
Fifteen credit hours or more are required for the minor. A minimum of 9 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level courses are required. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific minor requirements.

CHEMISTRY
A minimum of 20 credit hours. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific minor requirements.

CHICANO LATINO STUDIES
Minimum of 18 credit hours and must include one of LLS 1010 or 1020 and 12 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level course work. A maximum of 9 hours can be taken within a single department. First year Spanish recommended. A minimum grade of “C” is required in all courses. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific minor requirements.

COMPUTER SCIENCE
A minor in computer science may be earned by completing 12 credit hours of the IS&T core courses (CIST 1400, CSCI 1620, CIST 3100 and CIST 2500) and a minimum of 12 credit hours including 6 credit hours of computer science courses at the 2000 level or above and 6 credit hours at the 3000 level or above.

 ECONOMICS (College of Arts & Sciences)
A minor in Economics may be earned by completing ECON 2200 and 2220 plus 12 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level courses in economics. A grade of “C” or better is required in all courses for the minor.

 ENGLISH
A minimum of 18 credit hours in English with a grade of “C” or better to include, ENGL 2410 or 2420, 6 credit hours of ENGL 2310, 2320, 2450, 2460, 2470, 2490, 2500, 2510, 2520, and 9 credit hours of English courses at the 4000 level (one 3000 level course can be substituted for one 4000 level course).

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
A minimum of 21 credit hours. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific requirements.

FOREIGH LANGUAGE (French, German, Russian or Spanish)
A minimum of 15 credit hours in courses at the 3000 to 4000 level. A minimum of 9 credit hours in the minor language must be taken in residence at UNO. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and your academic advisor for specific minor requirements.

GEOGRAPHY
A minimum of 22 to 24 credit hours to include GEOG 1000 or 1020, 1060, 1070 and an additional four 3000 or 4000 level courses under specific Geography faculty advisement.

GEOLOGY
Students must take GEOL 1170 and 1180 (8 credit hours) plus an additional 15 credit hours of geology at or above the 2000 level.

GERONTOLOGY
A minor in gerontology consists of 18 credit hours. Nine hours of core courses are required with the remaining 9 hours to be selected by the student with advice and support of the academic advisor for the Gerontology Department. The core courses required include: GERO 2000, GERO 4460, GERO 4670, and GERO 4550. Students may also select a course offered in another department that has at least 75% of its focus on the aging experience. The student must earn an overall average of "C" (2.0) in courses for the minor.

HISTORY
Students must complete 15 credit hours in history at the 2000 to 4000 levels, with at least 12 credit hours in 3000-4000 level courses. All courses taken must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.

 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
A minor my be obtained in management information systems by completing ISQA 3210, 3310 and 4110, plus 3 credit hours of any other ISQA 3000 or ISQA 4000 level course. All courses taken must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.

 MARKETING
A minor in Marketing is offered for students outside the College of Business, and may be obtained by completing MKT 3310 plus nine credit hours from 3000 or 4000 level courses in marketing. At least one of the courses must be MKT 4300 – Marketing Management or MKT 4340 – Marketing Research. A grade of “C” or better is required in each course to apply to the minor.

 MATHEMATICS
A minor in mathematics can be obtained by completing 26 credit hours in mathematics consisting of MATH 1950, 1960, 1970, and four mathematics courses at the 2000 (excluding Math 2200), 3000 or 4000 level (including STAT 3800).

 MEDIEVAL/RENAISSANCE STUDIES
A minimum of 18 credit hours of approved courses. All courses taken must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. Please see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog.

 NATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES
A minor requires 18 credit hours. The only required course is NAMS 1100. At least 12 of the 18 credit hours must be taken at the 3000 to 4000 level. A grade of “C” or better is required for all classes. For course options see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and see your academic advisor.

PHILOSOPHY
A minimum of 12 credit hours of 3000 and 4000 level courses. For course options see the UNO Undergraduate Catalog and see your academic advisor.

PHYSICS
A minimum of 18 credit hours of physics courses with at least 15 credit hours chosen from among those courses normally counted toward the B.A. in physics.

POLITICAL SCIENCE
A minimum of 18 credit hours. At least 12 credit hours must be at the 3000 to 4000 level. A grade of “C-” or better must be earned in all courses.

 PSYCHOLOGY
A minimum of 12 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level courses. A grade of “C-” or better must be earned in all courses.

RELIGION
A minimum of 18 credit hours of which a minimum of 9 credit hours of 3000 to 4000 level religion courses are required. RELI 1010 is strongly recommended.

SOCIOLOGY
Students are required to take 18 hours of coursework, 12 of which must be in upper division Sociology and Anthropology courses (3000 level and higher). Students must get a C or higher in the courses that count towards the minor, and maintain a 2.0 GPA overall in the minor.

SPEECH or MASS COMMUNICATIONS
A minimum of 18 credit hours in the chosen area (speech or mass communications) of which 12 hours must be at the 3000 to 4000 level. A grade of “C” or better must be earned in all courses. SPCH 1110 cannot count toward the minor in Speech Communication.

WOMEN’S STUDIES
A minimum of 18 credit hours to include WMST 2010 and 2020 with the remaining 12 credit hours taken at the 3000 to 4000 level from designated women’s studies courses available in various departments.
