The Nebraska Certified Public Manager® Program Graduates First Cohort The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) “Certified Public Manager” (CPM) program graduated its first cohort of certified public managers on December 5 in a ceremony at the university that was presided over by Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy. The program was started last January. The Nebraska CPM is a year-long program and includes a mixture of 17 on-line and on-campus courses, plus a major project that is designed to tie all of the classroom learning together. The Nebraska Certified Public Manager® (CPM) program offered by the School of Public Administration of the University of Nebraska Omaha is
The primary goal of the program is to foster and encourage the highest possible levels of performance and ethical practice of public and non-profit sector managers in order to effectively provide services and continuously improve the performance of state, local and federal government and of the non-profit sector.
The CPM program
Those who complete the program earn a national trademark designation of CPM (Certified Public Manager).
The National Certified Public Manager Consortium establishes accreditation standards and reviews members’ programs for initial or continuing accreditation. The School of Public Administration of the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) became a member of the Consortium in February 2007. Nebraska Certified Public Manager® Program
The Nebraska Certified Public Manager® Program was developed by the UNO School of Public Administration.
The first cohort of the Nebraska CPM Program began in January 2008 in Omaha and the first class graduated in December 2008. The third Omaha cohort will begin in January 2010. The program includes an orientation, 17 courses and a major project scheduled over one year. Courses are delivered in person and online during the year. The program is designed to benefit current government or non-profit supervisors, managers, and persons with significant responsibilities (e.g., municipal or county clerks) and also persons who are interested in supervisory or management positions in a government or non-profit organization. There are no prerequisites.
