An important part of UNO's and CPACS' mission is to actively engage with the community. CPACS does this through a wide array of community and outreach programs and partnerships. Some of them are listed below, along with links to their Web sites for more information.
Center for Public Affairs Research (CPAR) - a research and community outreach unit of CPACS
Certificate in Fundraising Management (CFM) - a non-credit certificate program that provides in-depth training in vital areas of fundraising
Collaborating Center for Community Service - a joint initiative with UNMC designed to promote the health and development of Nebraska's populations and communities through campus-community collaboration in education, training and service
Community Outreach Partnership Center - part of a HUD initiative designed to help colleges and universities to develop and sustain effective partnerships for rebuilding community.
Consortium for Crime and Justice Research (CCJR) - promotes evidence-based practices in criminal justice and substance abuse treatment throughout the state by providing technical assistance and completing policy and program evaluations for the Legislature, administrative agencies and private organizations.
Consortium for Organizational Research and Evaluation (CORE) - links faculty consultants from CPACS with governmental and nonprofit organizations
CPACS Technology Center - provides computer support for the faculty, staff and students of CPACS, including resources in the CPACS building such as classrooms, collaborating commons and conference rooms
Democracy Matters - is a monthly series of community forums, debates, documentaries, and guest lectures with an overall goal to build social capital by providing meaningful opportunities for the university and local communities to engage in an ongoing, respectful exchange of ideas
Energy Saving Potential Program - a collaborative project between OPPD and CPACS focused on improving and encouraging the wise use of energy by residents and small business owners
Gandhi Award - awarded annually by the School of Work and given to honor individuals and organizations that exemplify Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of nonviolence, selfless service and social action—which are consistent with social work values
Juvenile Justice Institute - works collaboratively with numerous city and county government agencies across the state to address issues surrounding juvenile delinquency and juvenile justice in Nebraska using best practices
Metropolitan Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless - the lead of a collaborative network that coordinates and maximizes resources to prevent and eliminate homelessness
Nebraska Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program - a comprehensive management development program specifically for managers in federal, state, and local government and in non-profit organizations, accredited by the National CPM Consortium
Nebraska Municipal Clerk Institute and Academy - an annual continuing education program provided for Nebraska municipal clerks, operated by the School of Public Administration, accredited by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks
NASA Nebraska Space Grant & EPSCoR - promotes aerospace-related research, education, and public service programs across Nebraska
Nebraska State Data Center (NSDC) - U.S. Census Bureau's initiative providing easy and efficient access to data and information
Neighborhood Builders - free leadership training program of the Neighborhood Center for Greater Omaha; the goal is to empower residents by training them to be change agents in their communities
Neighborhood Center (NC) - provides information and assistance to neighborhood associations to enable them to come together and develop their own leadership and decision-making structure and effectively address the issues affecting the quality of life in their communities
Neighborhood Scan - a program of the School of Public Administration that uses technology to assist neighborhood residents in monitoring and documenting local conditions
Omaha Conditions Survey - an initiative at the Center for Public Affairs Research to monitor and improve the processes operating in Nebraska's urban areas by collecting quality information and making it accessible to those who need it
Omaha By Design - Omaha by Design, an initiative of the Omaha Community Foundation, is dedicated to changing the face of Omaha through the use of urban design principles and citizen engagement
Omaha Community Partnership (OCP) - implementation of a planning grant awarded to develop comprehensive and collaborative strategies to help prevent substance abuse, reduce violence and create a better understanding of mental health issues among area youth
Omaha Graffiti Scan - a joint project of the Neighborhood Center, the Center for Public Affairs Research and the City of Omaha to provide new tools to neighborhoods interested in fighting graffiti
Omaha Hate Crimes - an awareness campaign to send the message that Omaha is safe and welcoming for all people, administered by the School of Public Administration
Omaha Table Talk - an outreach program that promotes understanding and harmony by bringing together people of different races and ethnic backgrounds in a social setting where they can share their thoughts, experiences and questions about culture and race
Project Interfaith - an interfaith organization founded to build and sustain understanding, respect, and relationships among people of all faiths and beliefs and promote a deeper understanding of and respect for religious diversity
William Brennan Institute for Labor Studies - an outreach unit of CPACS with a statewide mission to foster creative and critical thinking among labor leaders, potential leaders, and interested members by providing relevant information and training in the skills needed in today’s changing economy and workplace
