Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed (PTO) is an organization that is dedicated to promoting social justice. PTO organizes an annual conference that focuses on the work of liberatory educators, activists, and artists; and community organizers. Participants share ways in which they apply the methods and ideologies of Paulo Freire and Augusto Boal. The conference draws participants from around the country and around the world. College of Education faculty have been involved in PTO as program chairs, organization officers, board members, and presenters. The 2001 and 2004 conferences were co-sponsored by the College of Education, the College of Fine Arts, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
